I know I'm resurrecting a dead thread, but I just wanted to say "thanks!" for this how-to. I had this problem on my 2008 F150 Supercrew and fixed it in a jiff thanks to these instructions. Saved me a bundle because I usually take my truck to the dealer for anything related to HVAC or electrical.

This is a VERY easy repair....
If your fan isn't working on all speeds, the fan motor resistor is most likely what's faulty.
There are two types, one if you have automatic temperature control, and one if you have manual.
This is the manual one, Motorcraft part #3F2Z18591AA.
One Ford dealer quoted $22.17, another said $36.00
1) Open the glove box beyond it's stop by pressing the right side in, till the rubber stopper clears the side.
2) This is the part to replace.
3) The screws are 8mm.
4) Slide the part out....it's credit card size.
5) Press the center tab to remove the connector from the part.
Reverse these steps with the new part, and you're good to go!

I played the devil with this, but just in case anyone out there still has a problem or future problems. The pictures above show for a manual climate control. If it is a 2004+ with auto climate control. The part is a controller, not the resistor. They are in the exact same place. twice the money. Part # 4L3Z-19E624-AA

For the record, I had to replace this part again in Oct. 2013.
Original lasted 5 yrs,
1st replacement 4 yrs,
This 3rd one is a Standard #RU440 I obtained from Rockauto.
We'll see how long this one lasts...
Not sure how I stumbled upon this thread.. but Glad I did.
Just ordered the Part from Tasca Parts. $29.70 delivered.
As of now.. Percentage wise..
1 = .0001 % speed
2 = 2.5%
3 = 40%
4 = 75%
1 and 2 are worthless.
Hoping this is the solution to that.

my fan used to just run on the high speed now it doesn't run at all, heat will come out once your driving but no fan. is this the same problem? will the motor resister help us? and is it located behind the glove compartment?

Hi everyone - I have a 2008 Expedition EL Limited with automatic/electronic climate control, having the the same problem as described by many of you here. You can turn it on, but you can't turn it off. It's stuck on high speed, although temperature/airflow is still controllable.
From reading this thread so far, I've learned that there's a difference between the manual resistor and the electronic controller. There were some very helpful DIY photos posted early on in the thread, but for the manual resistor. Is the electronic controller in the same place, near the glove box? Also, do any of you have a part number (either from Ford or for Autozone) so I can call and order one?
