Added my name! Truck feels better overall without any other changes. Not sure about mileage as winter gas has been killing it as of lately...

I'm in the process of this mod now and I was wondering, What all would I need to do the silencer delete? I don't want to go and try tearing apart the stock piece and I don't have the money to buy a second piece. Could I just use the rest of the pipe from the snorkle part? (have about 15" I can cut and get an elbow piece to make an "L" shape).

I like how this looks so clean, I'd like to have mine look something like this.

(Got this from the original Gots mod topic linked in post 2)

Just did mine today. Haven't really had a chance to drive it and see if I noticed a difference or not though.

Just did the mod along with removing the intake silencer. The silencer can be removed without pulling the flex tube (which I tried, and it was being a huge PITA so I gave up) and as mentioned earlier it's WAY easier if you use a heat gun to soften the glue holding the tube to the housing. I just aimed my cheap HF heat gun at the edges of the silencer, one end at a time, then used a long screwdriver to start it and a pair of long shank needle nose pliers to twist, and it came loose fairly easy. I needed an air filter too, so when I checked at Autozone I was able to get a Spectre oiled reusable filter for about 9 bucks more than a Fram or other normal filter. The zone is closing them out, they're selling for $29.99, and my store had one in stock. Took it for a couple mile ride, I didn't notice any major difference in intake sound (nothing objectionable, and I'm pushing 60, so draw your own conclusions) but I did notice a difference in the 'butt dyno'. My truck is a 2000 S-cab long bed 4x4 with a 4.6, all stock besides a two inch body lift and straight pipes after the cats, with 202K and change on it. I bought it to replace a 2wd 91 Dodge Club Cab as a third vehicle, hauler, snow plower, and to tow my car trailer when I go ****** a new find (I'm into International Scout II's). Once I got it I was kind of underwhelmed with the 4.6 and wondered if it would be up to hauling the loaded trailer, it didn't have the nearly the guts of the non-Magnum 5.9L I was replacing, or the 99 5.2 Magnum I had before that. Seems like now though that it should work alright, it does hills better than before, and seems to have more power where I need it (2000-2500 rpm). Now to install my trailer brake controller and do the odometer fix, I'm not into GPS, I'm stone age and still use Mapquest or Yahoo Maps, so using that trip odo when I'm looking for somebody's address is pretty essential. Now I can get it working again!

Just did this mod yesterday. Getting that glued hose to come off was a huge pain without a heat gun, but after that the silencer came out super easily (maybe you don't need to disconnect the hose that's glued to the plastic piece?). Grinding down the PVC took some patience, which eventually ran out and a rubber mallet took its place ...regardless, it was kinda fun to do, not too sure about that big of a change, but we'll give it some time! Thanks for the write-up btw!

Got mine done today. Seems to have slightly better torque and without sounding like captain obvious, it seems like it really is breathing easier. Idle seems a little smoother. Overall very happy so far. MPGs look to have improved a little basing off of Evo output so we'll see.

Does anyone know if taking out the silencer will affect it? I did not remove it but read somewhere that the silencer shrunk down as well which would in theory restrict the flow as well. Any info?

From what I have heard, Yes, it will help the air flow, However, I have yet to do it to mine because I don't want to rip apart a factory piece, I'd rather replace a piece with another pipe or something (any cheap ideas) and I've also heard that eliminating it will make the engine "whistle" which I wouldn't mind.

How much better does the engine sound without the silencer?

My 97 f150 4.6 was very sluggish pulling itself up hills. I did this this very easy mod. and cleaned my maf. and i tell you what there is night and day difference. Way more power all the way around. cant push the gas pedal like i use to spins the tires. Will be recommending to all my ford fans. Thanks again
