I had Westins on mine for a while, and they were pretty strong. You could bounce on them all day long and nothing but the body would move. Their directions suck, but most people figure them out after some fiddling. The best looking ones I've seen were Gorilla Double Bend bars. They dip down a little lower by the doors, and the rest of them rides up against the body fairly snug. Best part of any nerf bars? Say goodbye to door dings,,,,98

I took a look at Westins Platinum Series Stainless steel step bars with the 3" tube. I want black ones but I can't seem to find a listing for a standard cab 97' F-150 longbed. They are all supercrew or 3 door to 4 door nerf bars.

Hmm, the reg. cab Westins are the same for either bed length I believe. Shouldn't be that hard to find them. An Auto parts store could probably order you a set?,,,,98

Found them here, but the shipping may be murderous This is less than I paid for mine, though. ,,,,,98

I shipped my set from Houston to Iowa, and it cost something like $65? Can't remember that well, it was over a year ago.

Sorry man,

I noticed where you lived after I posted that. I know what you mean, we have 8 1/4% in Texas. No state income tax, though,,,,98

Try this website http://www.aboutmytruck.com/blacstepbarb22.html

I got the MAAP chrome bars for my truck and they came in @1 week or less and there is NO SHIPPING CHARGE !!!

They also had the best price of any online retailer I checked.

Thanks guys, I went into Truckin specialties in Springfield today and found the same westin bars I wanted to buy for the same price as JCWhitney. Of cource I dont have to pay all the extra stuff either like I normally would have to from JCW. All I have to say is that I wish I never found the store becuase I could spend some serious dough there. I mean the stuff they had was awesome.

Everybody has their own store like that, mine is Bullet Customs in Houston. I've probably spent a grand or more there since I found them last year. And I've only bought small stuff too??,,,98

Just so you know Aboutmytruck.com has them for about @ 25 bucks cheaper than J.C. Whitney and no tax or shipping! so the actual savings would be greater. I understand about not wanting to wait for your parts either, I just bought a tonneau for my truck and I found it cheaper online than the closest dealer had it ( about $50 cheaper). So I called the local dealer and told him I found online cheaper, he checked the website and offered to match the price. The downside is I still had to pay Illinois tax but I got it the next day. I guess my point is first check the online retailers and then if you can't wait and your local shop has it, use the internet prices to bargain with the local retailer.

Enjoy your new Nerf Bars!!

Emissions - Don't go for the Smitty's black textured finish nerf bars! I have them and in 3 years the textured finish is rusting off. I like the look of the nerf bars, but not the rusty Smitty's I have.
