Lightbulb Tail light lens mod. . .

I posted this before in another section, but thought I'd post it again here for the benefit of others. . .

Tired of your boring tail light lenses?
Can't seem to find any in the catalogs or magazine ads that look good to you?

Here's a solution! MOD YOUR LENSES!

Here's a look at how I did mine:

I did mine in flat black, mainly because everything else on the truck is that color except the paint. But the possibilities are endless. Simply mask off the areas you want to keep unpainted, then rub down the lenses with 00 steel wool. Wipe them off with a clean terry towel and a little 409 cleaner (very little). Then shoot them with your color of choice.

Good masking job, but I think it would look great the same color as the truck. Good Idea tho !

Looks good . I just got slotted taillight covers though.

You can see how much better they look on my 00 compared to none on the 02 HD in the pic.

I may try the paint thing when i get a ranger.

Here's what they look like at night:

I was originally going to paint them like the slotted covers, but then I thought. . .why not just get the covers? That's when I got the idea for the mod as it is now. The slotted covers look good, though! Especially on black.

Sorry the pics are kinda blurry- the camera gets 'confused' at night. Go figure.

I don't like it at all. Looks like a 3rd grade project.

Everybody's got their own opinion. It's negative responses like this that don't need to be shared. IMHO Somebody comes on here and shares an idea he has and some smart a$$ has to shoot him down. I quess his name goes with his attitude.

While I feel that "screwyou" was a little harsh in his delivery, I understand that not all opinions are [going to be] positive.

In this case it was: 2-yea, 1-maybe(Ranger), and 1-nea. Hardly a "shoot down".

If you're going to "put it out there" you better be ready for whatever response may result.

Great comment!! Now that I'm sober, I still don't like it. Sure I could of left out the "3rd grade project" comment, but it sounded better than saying "cheap and cheesy." This is my opinion, so if you don't like it, "screwyou."

Hehehe.

screwyou's comments are brutally honest. I respect that in people. I'd rather people come out and say what they really feel (how they really feel it) rather than sugar coat the truth. If I feared criticism of that caliber. . .I probably shouldn't post things on the internet. But I did, and I appreciate all of your opinions equally - good or not so good.

As I posted earlier, I would have done mine the same color as the truck but I like the fact that you put some thought into "How can I make what I have look better" and created a one of a kind. It is a true MODification.
Good job! - Keep thinkin

Check my truck !

I did that to my third brake light (expedition) because only a portion of the light light's up so I painted them glossy black. I've also done it on my mustang's clear headlight cover's. What did you use to mask off the area's? I used vynyl and scotch tape. The vinyl sheet's work much better cause you can use an exacto knife to get exactly the shape you want.
