Where can i find Silver Backed Mirrors?

I have seen a lot of you guys with the silver backed mirrors on your Fords. I really like that look but I am unable to find them. Are these aftermarket? And if so where would I obtain some?
They almost look like GMC/Chevy Mirrors modded to fit your Fords. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.

They come with the truck. My 2001 Supercrew has them as it is an XLT. It came with chrome on the mirrors and the grill surround. The Lariat comes with those items painted. When I had my 98 XLT it had painted mirrors and grill surround only the XL's had the chrome so it appears to vary from year to year.

Thanks.

So I imagine these come from the dealer. I also bet they cost an arm and a leg. I went down and they said the non painted, manual mirrors with the backings cost 400 bucks!!! Thats outragous! I could get my mirrors, bumpers, grilles, trim, and door handles painted for that cost! I think I am going to wait on them mirrors for a while... Thanks for the help.

Strange. I've got a 2001 XLT Supercrew 4x4 and mine were painted, not chrome like yours.

Maybe it just depends on whatever the factory had in stock the day our trucks were built!

The caps are removable. Takes a bit of patience. I replaced a mirror that had a motor go bad. Popped the cover/cap off the old, and onto a used one I bought at a junk yard. You should be able to buy chrome caps somewhere.

Montinore,
I should have elaborated more. At least for 2001 the 4x4's also came with painted mirrors and grill. Mine is 2 wheel drive. So for 2001 in a Supercrew only the 2x4 XLT comes with chrome. All the rest are painted. In 98 when I got my last truck only the XL's had chrome.

Some XLTs have the chrome mirrors with the chrome grill and some have them painted. Mine are chrome, and I like them, but I like the honeycomb grill that ONLY comes with the painted surround and mirrors. The chrome looks great, but only has the "3 bar" grill like the XLs. I wish I could leave the crome, but put in a honeycomb grill.

Only the 4X2 models have the chrome mirror, why I dont know If I were to offroad I would prefer the chrome mirrors as they dont scratch from tree limbs or anything else you might brush up against like painted mirrors do

From Kansas City here........................... Depending on what region you live in/order a truck in, which depends on where you live is how Ford Motor Company determines how to market and build your truck. For example, any 4x2 XL or XLT that is not a Lariat package, LOBO, or a Sport upgraded package would get chrome skull caps(Mirror Backs) and a chrome grille. That is how they are built here in K. C.

Only other option is the turn signal in the skull cap itself and that requires a whole mirror assembly since the loom itself is in the housing which in turn plugs into the wire loom in your guys door panel loom.

Just a heads up from the inside!

How quick do you need them...

I am in the process of finding silver ones for my 2wd XLT, and should have crome caps available, that is once I get around to getting the painted caps.

I was going to try to call Gary at fordpartsonline, and see what he has, then troll junk yard looking for the painted ones, and repaint if needed.

If you don't have to have them now, once I get mine swaped they can be yours for shipping costs.

Drop me an email from my profile, and we can talk in depth about it.

These are what they are, so we are on the same page:

Thumbs up

I priced a set at a dealer, and the caps are available seperately from the mirror. The counter guy told me somewhere between $25-$30 a piece. You could order them in chrome or any color you wanted, if I remember correctly,,,,,98
