Tint color off..
Tint color off..
Maybe I am way too picky about my truck, but it has how I have always been. I just stripped my 15% Llumar ATR front tint and replaced it with the same ATR film but in 5%. I am very happy with the darker look inside and out, however it is painfully obvious that it is a charcoal tone... It absolutely bothers me terribly and is too painfully noticed at least IMO. My friend doesn't think there is much of a difference but I swear I see it. This bothers me much more than not having glossy B-pillars!
I probably will not be satisfied until I strip this tint off and replace it with something that is actually BLACK like the rear glass. That is exactly what I want. So I want to ask those with front tint, what brand is your guy's films and what type? And even percent? I want to keep the 5% fronts and would rather apply it once ( I have tinted my front windows 3 times so far.. ) than to have to layer two layers of tint to remain very dark.
I have looked up on Suntek films but they still appear to be a charcoal like tone. The only film I have come across online with a high satisfaction background and a non-charcoal like look is the 3M Color Stable series. Anyone here have that installed?
There is a also roll you can by from Northern Tint Co LLC called True Black ( rather not buy a whole roll.. It isn't available in pre-cut either )
Below is a pic of my complaint. I know black does not hide anything, but I am pretty sure this is fault of the tint and I won't be happy until I fix it ( again ).

Not sure what brand tint I have on my front windows... But I have 15% on the fronts of my '08 and it looks to me as if it matches up perfectly with the back glass. I had my tinted by a tint shop in town, so whatever type of film the "pro's" use I would imagine is what I've got. It's held up great with no bubbles for 3 years.
And I thought I was picky
But honestly, I've gotten all of my trucks tinted at 20% the whole way around. On the last two, I've noticed the fronts are more of a charcoal than a black. My tint guy must have switched up rolls over the past few years, although I know he'll only use 3M. However, I don't mind it. Everyone but the detail-oriented ones like us will not give it second thought. I've seen my truck up close, and from a far and it looks like standard black tinted windows to me. And that's all I was going for. Best of luck if you decide to re-tint, but I think it looks fine!

I feel ya man. I'm still running my 5% Walmart tint that I experimented with. I almost pulled the trigger on Llumar tints, but it looks like I'm gonna wait and listen as well. I'm just a picky driver looking for a pure black tint. Is that too much to ask? Lol, and yes, the front windows ARE 5%.
Thanks guys.
I actually have a tint job coming up for my buddy's girlfriend's 2011 Escape. I ordered some pre-cut 20% 3M Color Stable off of Filmvantage on eBay. Most expensive price I have paid for a pre-cut 2dr only kit so far coming in at $69 shipped, but I have not read one negative review of the Color Stable series tint. Will look forward to installing it next week and that will determine whether I will order the same film in 5% for myself.
I notice the color difference everytime I walk past the truck so I am hell bent on re-doing it. Sucks cause the Llumar ATR is a really nice quality film. If only it was full black.

I cant believe how much that stuff costs.. Around here its about 35-50 for tint and installation. The stuff they use is nice too. Never had one problem. I know you like installing yourself but have you ever looked into what a good, reputable shop charges for installation? Just curious..

That's crazy.. I can get a complete four door car with a sunroof and brow done for under 150.. And that includes having to strip the windows if they need to be done. The tint has always been completely black too and has matched. I hope you get this figured out!
Hey guys, just a quick update. I finally got some 3M Color Stable 5% tint, matches the OEM privacy glass color perfect. The front is equally black in tone like the rears now. I am much happier. I also now have glossy B-pillars and fully painted mirrors!

stupid IA laws.
