HID battery drain?

installed DDM 9007 hi/low 55W HID kit this afternoon. all works great till i go to lunch from work. turn my key, truck doesn't turn over. no click. all the lights go dim.
i thought maybe the terminals weren't seated well, so i go under the hood and try to wiggle them. truck starts right up. i park at my grandparent's house to eat and i go out to try and start it. won't do anything. won't even jump..
i haven't tested the battery yet because its a little late... but i was curious if anyone has had this issue with their hid's??

did i maybe wire it up wrong? ill try to get pics tomorrow..

I have the same kit and have not had a problem, mine was sluggish maybe once or twice right after it but she starts right up now and they take a second to charge up once I cut them on.

shouldn't be having the issues listed...sounds like the system or your truck is grounding out somewhere and causing a constant draw on your electrical system. Get it figured out or you are going to continue to burn thru batteries.

It could be related to the HID upgrade or it could be something else went and is just a coincidence. Make sure you are running an HID wiring harness and not drawing power thru the stock wiring for your HID's.

HID's use more current to ignite the gas inside the bulb but draw less current than a halogen bulb when lit.

05blackfx4, thanks! i think its just coincidence... i am running the wiring harness and it is in fact hooked up correctly. turns out the battery isn't the issue. but they still replaced it so i have a brand new battery now!

truck started right up this afternoon. but once i turned it off, it wouldn't do anything. no click. no cranking. all the lights and radio and all that work just fine. im hoping it'll start tomorrow..if so, its going to the shop..

Check the contact on your negative battery stock wiring. I know on my mom's 96 mustang she had an issue with deposit buildup and it turned out it trashed the stock O ring the fits onto the battery terminal. I just picked up a new one, crimped the wires and cutoff the bad portion and never had a problem since.

She was going thru batteries every 3-4 days and I would put a trickle charge on them and try again. Finally figured the issue out and no issues in over 8 months.

Good luck
