try this out

tape a border around the emblem first, without the newspaper...try to get it behind the emblem. it wont be much tape back there, but it gives you a much better chance of not getting overspray on the truck.

Did you do any sanding or priming before you painted those?

Thats how I did mine too except I taped off the Ford logo and used an exacto knife to cut around it to keep the Ford logo chrome. Scuffed it a bit with a red scotch brite and black spray paint with a clear coat to seal it

Did mine the same way and its easier to paint on the truck. Make sure you are in an area with no wind or tape off like a madman to avoid overspray. I had a little and its a pain to get off the paint

sand, clean, paint and then clear over the top to protect the paint.

If you plan on getting inlays look around. Patriotdecals is no longer making them as far as I know and people have had difficulty finding a new online retailer with correct size specs.

If you choose to take them off heat them up with a hair dryer/heat gun and get some dental floss. They should be held on with a pin thru the fender and some 3M bonding material. I would recommend painting them on the truck though, much easier and faster.
