DDM HIDs Cutting out on me

Ok boys & girls I need some help figuring out what to do about my HIDs.

I haven't called DDM yet so I figured I start here. I bought my kit back in December of 09 when they were having their sale. I recieved them and the bulb was broken after a few weeks fighting the busy telephone lines and getting the run around on the email part. I finally got a new bulb after I talked to Customer Service.

So here are the problems:

1.) I will be driving down the street and if I hit a very tiny bump or dip in the road my lights will cut out I will aim for another bump and they'll cut back on. Thankfully this has only happened at dusk and not at dark. Yet sometimes I have to pull over and go mess with the High/Low box (I think that's what it is). And they'll flicker back on

2.) I will go out to the truck and crank it up and go to turn the lights on and the lights don' t fire up. I do it several more times and eventually they'll turn on

So what is the problem? The kit has been great to me thus far till this last month of problems. If these crap out again I'm gonna rip them out and buy a different/Nicer set.

Thoughts?

Here's the pic I'm talking about of the box I have to mess with:

The item @ Six 0' Clock position

check your wires on the socket where it plugs into the factory harness.....common problem most people overlook.

Yeah it sounds like the plug that you plug into the stock headlight harness on the drivers side. Mine was doing that until I wrapped it up tight with electrical tape.

I'll try that, but then why is the box so sensitive? I just touch the wires and it'll cut back on?

I had enought trouble with my DDM's that I removed them from my car (I had them in my 6). I got the Raptor 55w 5000k Digital ballasts AND the wiring harness. I have had problems a couple times with them not firing up at all (will flicker once when turned on as if trying to fire, but no joy) and also that one side stopped working. I have spare parts as I have had a warranty claim with them where a bulb went out... or so I thought- and they never asked for the old ones back. Oh, and this DDM kit was only installed on the car for about 6 weeks before it started giving me problems.

I purchased this kit for $100 including the wiring harness and thought I was getting the best on the market. Bwahahahaha. In all my experience of aftermarket HID's over the last 5 years, 7 cars and probably 9 different brands, one thing has become brutally clear... THEY"RE ALL NOTHING BUT TROUBLE AND NOT WORTH THE TIME OR MONEY IN THE LONG RUN. TOO MUCH HEADACHE. Output is great but I don't like having to worry if my lights are gonna work when I need them to.

I spent alot of time looking at my lights in tailgates and chrome bumpers- not admiring them like I would have liked to- but checking to see if both were working. Kinda scary when you have to drive home at night with no low beams.

that's weird, i've had 3 different brands of hid's and none have gave me any problem besides vvme's, one ballast quit working and thats all. i've had my ddm kit for over a year and not a single problem that wasn't my fault.

Oh Im not talking about the relay. Im talking about the green h13 plug that plugs into the stock headlight plug that would normally plug into a bulb, but instead plugs into the harness. That is what was causing my lights to turn off when I hit a bump.

i completely agree with your post.

I ve had atleast 3 different HID sets in my truck. the longest set lasted about 6 months. they look cool at first, but they really arent worth the headache.

CarolinaBoy- i had the same problem with my DDM hids. the "relay box" became very sensitive, hit a bump they turn off. I had to drive around with just my fog lights for the night , i didnt want it to happen again so i put in a set of silver stars and havent looked back since.

DDM's costumer service/ technical support isnt the greatest either

Do like I had in my 2005 Lariat... Silverstar Extreme (?) in the heads and Hoen Endurance fogs. No matter the conditions, I was able to see PERFECTLY. The yellow fog bulbs cut thru water and fog great and in the clear dry weather, they enhanced that normal headlight output alot.

I ended up ripping them out and putting silverstars back in. Light output sucks compared to HIDS but I can see further down the road and I don't have to worry about them cutting out

yup, ive had silverstars in my 97 ranger, my 04 f150 heritage and my 08 f150. the light output on my 04 was by far the best. highs were like spotlights. my 08 has projectors so the light is spread out more. it is still a whole lotta light, but they dont reach as far as my 04 did. but the 04's went REALLY FAR. the 08 still goes farther than the stocks did tho...now that i think about it, i think my ranger had nighthawks... but i know my f150s both were silverstars
