Mag-Hytech Diff Cover Installed

Finally got her installed! Bought her last Feb but could never seem to find the time to install it last Friday. Filled her up with some Royal Purple. I hate an ugly rear end, don't you?

Looks good how much do those run ? How much extra capacity do you gain? I want to get one of these eventually.

Nice. I'm guessing you flushed the axle out and defined to change the cover. Odd seeing one under a non lifted truck, but I would get one myself when I get to changing the fluid out.

Yeah, I wanted to get one for a loooong time. One of those small detail things that really make a difference (imo). I got mine for 200 bucks through a friend. I think normally they run around 260 or so. The owners manual says 2.6 quarts. With this cover I'm just a shade under 5

Not sure what an axle flush is but I agree, I've never seen one on a non-lifted truck either

Draining all the rear end fluid, and adding fresh gear oil. Same as a transmission flush, transfercase flush, and brake system bleed. Hell even an oil change. Once the OEM lid came off you had to re-fill it anyways cause any & all fluid that wasn't already drained would have poured right out regardless right?

Gotcha' Yes, all fluid came out and the fluid that was sitting in the bottom of the housing I just kind of 'squeegeed' it out, if you know what I mean.

Is this a strictly appearance thing? Does it add cooling capacity to the dif-fluid? Does it have a drain bolt to make changing easier? Is it more durable for rock-crawling?

I like it, but I'd have to justify it to the 'other half' if it costs over $200. Please give me some legitimate reasons [for her: I LIKE IT is legit enough for ME!] to buy/install it.

It holds 5 quarts of fluid and has a better seal than the stock one. Seems a helluva lot stronger than the stock one too. I just got one put on for my non-lifted truck:

I like your exhaust Johnny and the cover compliments it.

No, it's not strictly an appearance thing however it was the main reason why I went with the Mag-Tech. It's suppose to run cooler per design of the cooling fins and has a larger capacity like aak625 said. Has a dipstick and a syphon hole for fluid change. As far as durability goes it's much more heavier than the oem. The stock cover is pretty thin and was bending when I was taking it off. The Mag can't bend, miles above the oem. It also has a channel that the rubber seal sits in so there's no need for any adhesives when installing. Just make sure the housing is clean of any old sealant and smooth. Torqued to 16 ft lbs. Took me about 1.5 hours to do but really could be done in much less time.
