Hids strange problem
Hids strange problem
Hello everyone heres the concern. Went to brag to a buddy about my new hids not even 2 weeks old yet. I turned switch on to low beams all good, he asked is it the bi kit i said yes and hit the highs no light. I tried several times and still not working drove about 2 miles home and got in driveway and tried again all working hi and low. Do these have to heat up for highs to work or what just wanted to see if anyone has had this happen or is this normal. Didnt want to call vendor and complain if this is normal.
sounds like your bulbs trigger mechanism is messing up.
my advice would be to take a video while a friend operates the hi/lo lever in the truck, and contact DDM. hopefully my kit coming next week won't be doing this...
it also may be that you hi/lo controller could have a loose connection, as I don't think they really need to "warm up".

Is there actually a difference in the hi/lo? I thought I read it just repositions the light? I wouldn't think it needs to warm up if that's the case. I ordered a 35w hi/lo kit from ddmtuning, just wating for it to get here.

i know with HIDs they some times don't light up when you start them up do to the gases not getting a good ignite(just turn them off & flick them back on to fix) but ive never heard of the high beam not working... check connection to the high beam motors on both sides.. just installed my hid kit tonight my buddy sells them cheap so got mine for $50.
Just to clarify, you had lows already on. When you hit the highs, the lights turned off, and they turned back on when you went back to low beams?
Or did the light remain on, and it just didn't move into the high beam position?
The bixenon kits work be moving the bulb. When you hit the high beams, the bulb retracts. It tries to mimic the position of the high beam filament in a dual beam bulb.

elvato when i had them in low they work fine went to hit the highs and both lights went out no light coming out switched back to low worked fine drove the truck about 2 miles and everything started working again fine hi and low went back out about 1 hr later and they messed up again
So, from a cold start, you turn it on. The lows work fine. You hit the high beams, the light goes out (does the bulb still retract?). You switch back to lows, and the bulb lights up again.
You drive around for a little bit with the lows on, and you switch it again to high beams. This time, the bulb retracts and the light stays lit, and both highs and lows work fine.
You wait an hour, to cool things down. It is messed up again, with you having to wait for it to "warm up" again in order to get the highs to work.
That right?
If you were to, from a cold start, switch the lever to high beams, then turn on the headlights (basically start the headlights in the hi beam position), do the lights eventually turn on (assuming you waited the same amount of time it normally takes to "warm up.").
Also, does this problem also occur if you use the flash-to-pass (pulling back on the lever) to turn on the high beams, instead of using the normal high beam (flipping the lever forward).
If I were to guess, it sounds like a problem with the relay harness. Either way, contact DDM and see what they have to say.

Should be through warranty; DDM offers lifetime on their products from what I am seeing.
Do you have fog lamps where you have installed their HID Kit as well? If so you may want to see what their extra wiring harness can do. They suggest the harness on the 55watt applications as well as muiltiple installations of the 35watt.
