Want a grittier running board pad
Want a grittier running board pad
I have the stock 04 FX4 style running boards, they need to be painted sometime soon, but my biggest concern is the plastic pad on top of the running board. It is slick as owl S*it when it is wet. I need it to be gritter, when wearing boots getting into the truck I have slipped several times. Any Ideas? Bedliner? donno
I know Mblouir just redid his but i am more concerned about the service I am stepping on more than anything. His turned out really good that is the route I will most likely go with if not just spraying the whole running boards with line-x or some equivalent product
Thanks Guys,

There are companies that make a spray on grit adhesive. We had a vendor top in at work once trying to sell it. You may have to google some more. I'll look and see if I can find a line card here at work.
I used skateboard "grip tape" and has fallen off on one running board yet stayed on the other. Interesting that the board it fell off of was the passenger side that doesn't get used as much. I wonder if using the grip tape with an extra adhesive underneath it would suffice. My grip tape was $5 for 16 feet by 2 inch wide. Works great when it is on!

I wouldn't trust anything you can buy in Wal-Mart of the Auto parts store for what you're looking at doing. I think your best bet would be something like Line-X. Get it professionally done (as you're just doing the pads I don't think it would cost much). Of course the best option would be to get everything Line-X'd (PTM rails with black pads
) but that would cost more.Since you will be stepping on those pads every time you get in the truck I wouldn't trust OTC bed liner spray. You always get what you pay for.
I have my steering wheel up pretty high and my seat all the way back. There still isn't enough clearance to slide in easily. I'm 6'5" so my *** rubs the side of the seat every time. It just rubs less with the step rails.
mblouir- is exactly right. I am 6'5" and I have the same problem....My buddy that did my bed can probably spray my running boards too. I won't to get the whole things sprayed just get it done and not have to worry about it.
I would love to do PTM but I think that would be outta my price range and that they would get beat up pretty quick from rocks and stuff
