Hid

I am new to the whole HID deal and was interested in getting some. I do not want the "blue" look, I was looking more for the cadilac, bmw, mercedez look. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the best brand for the best price. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
Travis

100's of threads out there... do a search

colour you want is 4300-6000k max

as for kit, there are plenty out there.. find someone local with good warranty imo

kits can range from $80-500
(sometimes you get what you pay for sometimes you dont...)

Lots of us on here ended up going with Xenonlink & William who works there for our kits. He was extremely helpful and always willing to answer the phone and answer any questions I had. His kits are right at $100 bucks each.

I went with 6000k which is what most Mercedes use and I believe Cadillac is similar. I know Lexus uses this temp as well. Here are a few pictures.

Same here. A lot of people will knock on HID4U because it seems cheap and "you get what you pay for"...

Well 2 years ago I paid 80$'s, and I didn't get what I paid for... I got something better then what I paid for

I will admit his customer service isn't the greatest... but if something goes wrong, just tell him what part you think is bad and he'll just send you another one no questions (in my case, he sent me two ballast... then I figured out I just had it wired wrong, so now I have 2 backup ballasts).

Edit: The guy that sells on here seems good too, but he came around after HID4U. I probably would have gone with the new guy if he was around at the time I was buying.

IMO with the bi-xenon's being more parts and moving parts and thus more expensive, I just opted for the Hi/Low kit. This keeps your HID for low beam, but has a regular old halogen for hi beam. I only did that for passing inspection here in TX anyway.

Keep in mind, though, that a kit will not give you the results of a Cadillac, BMW, or Mercedes. Only a full retrofit will. The kits throw light in any direction (it's the nature of halogen reflectors) whereas the makers mentioned, have projectors that finely tune the light output.

I've posted this pic and the link that follows in a few places on this forum. It is an amazing picture, though, that perfectly illustrates what a retrofit can look like. A retrofit will end up with results similar to (click for larger image):

Those red lights are his tail lights (a Lincoln LS retrofitted with Lexus LS460 projectors). The full article is over at HIDPlanet.

An HID kit will just amplify the imperfections in your halogen reflectors. Halogens are about half the brightness, so you don't really see them. When you throw a HID (or as I've called them, HIG for High Intensity Glare) kit into your reflectors, you will be able to see the hotspots and narrow beam that is a part of halogen's weakness.

If you do your own retrofit, it would probably cost you around $350, though you can go much higher if you want. My cost, so far (in CAD):

Acura TL Bi-Xenon projector (x2): $180/pair
Mitsubishi Ballast (x2): $100/pair
Shrouds (x2): $50/pair

From there, you have everything you need to do your own quality retrofit. Ask questions over at HIDPlanet and they'll help you out. Just be sure to do some homework in the University section to start the learning process. They're far easier on people who try to search and learn before asking questions that have been answered a hundred times.

I'm also going with Blackout headlights, so that ups my cost a little. It's up to you, but you are free to make them as simple or as extravagant as you want. You'll also have something that a lot of people don't have. Whereas HIG kits are everywhere, these days, retrofits are few and far between. You'll stand out from the imitators crowd.

It is your decision in the end. I am passionate about giving the choice of a quality retrofit over "dime-a-dozen" HIG kits.

Cheers!

the real xenon bulbs and ballasts use xenon gas (Lexus, BMW, Mercedes), which is extremely expensive. it was a $2000 option on my girlfriends audi A4. totally worth it.
