So, you want dark tails that are still DOT legal ?

Okay well, somebody on the forum here posted these Recon Smoked tail lights, which I think would look REALLY good and they are very DARK ! Certainly darker than the HD's......
http://www.gorecon.com/product.php?pk=191
And of course one could then go with the "matching" Recon smoked 3rd brake light. Okay.... so they aren't cheap..... but then what is, that's looks good / dark and is still DOT legal ?
Anyway, I had asked a couple of times, but either nobody knew the answer, or they missed my question.....
Could these dark *** tail lights still be DOT legal ?
Well surprise, surprise ! I e-mailed Recon, and this was their reply;
Whooo Hooo ! Hells yea' ! .......now, if only I could pay my freaking auto insurance.... and rent first :-(
Like I said, they ain't cheap..... but after waiting for nearly a year, I might as well wait a little longer and get the ones I really want.....
Peace,
Fish

Yes sir they are…100% legal. The DOT & SAE stamps are directly on the outside of each lens, so you have no problems.

Thanks for the tip on the coupon.
Anyone know how long that code is good for?
I love those tails but the picture is deceiving. They are not really that dark.
I posted a thread asking for pictures of these exact lights on a truck and these are Darknight's photos.

Thank you for that coupon IDNC. That's a pretty fat savings !
Hey Lordfeyr, yea..... hmmmm..... and knowing what I know about photography, it's not likely "just the picture" either. That's actually a good photo, which is not over-exposed whatsoever.
Curious though... why is somebody standing on the bedcover ? I'd be like, "Dude ! Get TF down from there, before I hop in and floor it ;-) LOL
I wonder what these would look like side by side with HD's ? A little darker anyway ???

ghetto version, but very inexpensive...works on my 99 (still need to niteshade them)
Put LED's in the factory lights and nite shade the lenses with about 2-3 light coats. should cost less than 70$ to do the taillights. Don't be cheap, get the load protectors...one time shutting the truck off with the lights on can blow your 50$ bulbs. I learned that the hard way.
