My semi-educated WAG is that the windshield tint is applied horizontally and the side glass tints are applied vertically, typically.

Polarization works by blocking the scattered light rays and only letting in rays that are aligned in one direction. I'm guessing you may have noticed that you have some difficulty seeing/reading LCD displays also, like computers, gas pumps & ATMs. Their coatings typically work by scattering light. When tilting my head to the left my laptop screen goes black. My Oakleys and the laptop's anti-glare coating conflict blocking the display.

Pretty much the same thing is happening with the tint, IMHO. BTW, I never see rainbows, all I see are best described as bubbles or holes where someone's tint looks lighter. The wifey's PT Snoozer suffers from this.

Yeah i have 5% around, and 35% on windshield... but with my polarized oakley's i get the rainbows on the side windows and nothing on the front... but I love the way this looks. It makes people look twice at your vehicle... btw, what does a tint ticket cost on avg?

I had 1% on my back 3 windows and 15% on the front sides on my silver truck. Perfect setup IMO

You can't even see the guys inspection/registration stickers at the gas station.

LovetheTide, how did you do the tint around your registration/inspection stickers? Any pics?

I went and got a quote to do my windshield and go darker on the doors today.

I live in Alabama so I don't have to worry about it because the truck hardly ever goes back to Texas, but next time it does I'm going to a run down place and see if I can slip a 20 or 20 to the guy doing it.

I have seen guys cut the tint large enough for the sticker then lay the sticker in the spot, looked pretty good.

Did you total your truck because you couldn't see out the front window ??

I think a tint ticket here is up to 185 now. pretty steep. It might be 165 though.

I still haven't figured it out.. I wear polarized glasses daily and have never been able to notice it, and I'm tinted 35% on the windshield.

Look at post #33 in this thread and it might help explain it.

I can't freaking believe it ! I've finally found something that is actually cheaper in Cali ! In fact, here in Cali, a tint ticket is basically just a "fix it" ticket. Zero $ fine. You just have to have the tint removed from your windows, then go down to the police station or highway patrol office, to prove that you fixed it, and get it signed off.....

Just don't let Cali find out Alabama is charging $185 for this.... or next year, Cali will be charging $250 ! Freaking money hungry state :-(
