HID question

Hey guys, first off this is a great site that I've been lurking on for quite some time lol, reading and learning lots! Anyhow I've decided I might want to add some HIDs to my truck and I'm still a bit confused. I pretty much know that I want a bi-xenon light(or in some way keep my high beams) but I've read a bit on projectors, with some guys spending like $1200 on them. I can find whole kits on ebay for like $200, so are these just cheapos or what? I'm pretty tight with money but I wont have any cheap crap on my truck. Also I want a more german engineering look rather than a 'ricer' or boyracer car with a fartcan on it look if that makes any sense lol. Thanks for the help!

Hey me not being able to ever find anything when i search i know how it feels...but there are tons of threads on this...but those $1200 projects that you read about are probably OEM projectors from an Audi, bmw, or other factory HID equipped luxury vehicle. If you get those you will have to do a lot of customizing to your headlight housing to make them fit and be correctly sealed. Most people on this site get the black headlights or paint their headlights (to reduce the glare on on coming traffic) and they simply buy a bi-xenon HID kit that contains xenon bulbs and ballasts and a relay. I ordered mine from hid4u on ebay (there's a new guy on here selling some, xenonlink, look for him... someone recently wrote a review on him) i got them in my headlights and fogs and i got the 5000k it's closer to oem look, i didnt want any yellow in my lights or any blue.

Thanks for the help, and I apologize for my incompetence with the search function. Just to be sure, should I just go with getting bi-xenon bulbs from someone like xenonlink and stick them in the normal housings or should I go with the $200 dollar housings+bulbs on ebay? I have read pretty good things about that xenonlink guy, but I figured it was because he gave free stuff away for those reviews. I'll have to give him a call. Thanks again.

I was one of the people that did the review-for-a-free-kit deal. We were told negative or positive, our reviews would still get us our free kit. My review was 100% honest. I feel as if everyone elses review on XenonLink was just as honest. It seme like we all had pretty much similar experiences with the exception of one person getting a bad bulb but I believe he posted today and everything was taken care of and is operating as described now. The only negative towards the XenonLink kit in my opinion, and I saw it mentioned by others, is the bracket to hold the ballasts isn't the greatest. Other than that, fantastic experience, awesome product. You won't be disapointed.

I would just use your stock housing, there is nothing wrong with it and to be honest I have not found a headlight unit that looks as well as the stock headlight housing. I was the guy that had the issue with the bulb but he got me squared away very quickly and I have zero issues with the system now. He knows his stuff, and stands by his product. Personally I am glad I had an issue with the bulb, because any company can be great when there is nothing wrong with their products. The companies whos products fail and they stand by there products, and make it right those are the ones who will make a life time customer out of me.

I agree the stock housing looks best but would it cause too much glare for other drivers (or cops) with HIDs in them? I do have a 6" lift. Oh, and I'm planning on getting 6000k bulbs. Thanks for all the replies!

If you re aim your problems you will have zero issues. Just make sure to properly aim them so your not shining in someones eyes and making it dangerous for them to be on the road with you. I have drove past several cops with zero issues.
