Different color HID temps

I was looking around on the web last night and got tied up into a gto forum (don't ask how I ended up there), but I was reading through post of there HID setups. They were saying that they like running 5000k in the headlights and 3000k in the fogs (because of the contrast in colors helps how far you can see). I wonder if there is any thruth to this and would it work the same on trucks. What's your opions?

that sounds right. 5000k is a tad more that stock and 3k is similar to stock fogs. i would go with brighter fog lights (i like headlights in my fogs, no issues yet, but if you drive along time at night you may, pimprohr did anyway) but 5k and 3k is a good setup

I didn't think kelvin had anything to do with brightness but only color. 3000k is said to cut through fog nd bad weather a bit better so I hear.

well brightness/usable light output goes hand in hand with the k raitng, so they are kinda related, IMO. i've seen guys with 30k's and they were pink

i would get matching fogs , but thats just me.

i had 6 k on my last hids , but i think im gunna go with 5k next time around.

6 k was a lil too blue to for me. i want white

the higher in temp go go, the more you lose light output , 6-8k is about as high as i would go

I hear what you're sying. I think it's more of an illusion though. I think they're just as bright but our eyes see better when it's a whiter light. I guess for all intents and purposes then you're right.

Atom got it right. When you go above 6000 kelvin with HIDs, the useable light output starts to decrease. Think of it like putting a black light in your headlights. Yes it looks different, but you won't be able to see anything.
