Hey guys I want to know if 20% tint all they way around with a 20% tint strip on top of windshield would be a good setup. How dark would the cab be? does anyone have pictures?

 

i think 20% is the best set up. not too dark to attract unwanted attention, but darker than the "legal" 35%. of course others may say the darker the better.

mine is an older truck & it's kinda hard to see on here, but i have 20% on the front windows, and 5% on the "supercab" part of the rear.

 

i have 15% on fronts. if you would like i can take an inside pic with the windshield and a side window in it so you can make a comparison from clear to 15%

I haven't run 20% on anything in a while, but here are a couple pictures (okay a bunch) of the tint on my sport trac I had, and Jetta my wife drives.
Keep in mind, window tint looks darker and more reflective with overcast skies too, or lots of light outside. You can have two pictures of the same car with window tint in different conditions that look completely different.

13% on the driver and passenger windows, and 5% covering the factory tint on the rest of the windows. First thing I did when I bought it. 20% would be slightly lighter up front, similar to the rear windows are on the stock truck.
My thoughts on this setup;
- I liked the 13% up front, and I wouldn't go any darker personally. It would be asking for trouble with the law, and would make night driving in dark spots difficult (sharp turns). Also, I think darker tint would make you get sorts of tunnel vision during the day.
- I liked the 5% over stock on the rear window. During the day you could see much light looking from the back (that was my goal). At night it was pretty dark, but not so bad. The rest of the cab was dark so I didn't have any real problems seeing out.
- I liked the 5% over the rear side windows, my passengers didn't. I didn't want people to look in at camera's, computers, tools, etc. and it worked great for that. But if you sat in back on anything other than a sunny day it was a little dark, especially at night.







And my Jetta with 30% fronts, 10% rears.
- 30% is okay, since cars with window tint attract more attention from the law in my experience. No problems with this. You can see in, but it is much more comfortable and looks much better than stock. It still hides a little bit so the interior doesn't draw attention. Night driving is no problems whatsoever.
- 10% on the back worked well. Again, I know cars draw more attention (especially this vr6 with magnaflow) so I wanted to be able to see through it. Night driving is fine, and eyes aren't drawn inside. Throw a black blanket over something in the back seat and is disappears. I didn't want anything darker since my wife drives it and here night vision is not as great as it could be. She has no problems with her tint, though she hated driving the sport trac at night. The tint shop that I talked to here said that 20% over factory tint ends up around 7-10% total light transparency. So this 10% is probably pretty close to what your back windows would look like.






I am just about to get my F150 tinted, as soon as I get the title, get it inspected and registered (wish they would hurry up!). My plan is 15-20% (depending on what the shop carries) on the driver and passenger window, and sun strip on the windshield. 5% over the back window. I'm still undecided on the rear doors. I want them light enough that backseat passengers don't complain, but at the same time they are just back seat passengers, and I like keeping the back seat private

I know every time I get tint done I over obsess and look at hundreds of pictures until I think I know what I want. Then I usually change my mind at the shop at the last second. So I know it helps to have some good pictures

 

20% is what comes stock on the back windows of F150's that do have tint.

I did 20% up front although the limit is 33%, so to offset it a little bit I did 5% in the back so it looks like the fronts are a lot lighter. Attracts less attention.



I don't have any pictures of it yet, (sig is stock tint) just got it done and I'm in the process of putting on my Patriot Decals so I'll post back when I do.

 

20% will match the factory tint. my wife has 20 on her Honda. She hates driving my truck w/ 5% on the windows. You can still see into the car and still use mirrors to back up at night. I have to roll down my windows to see at night.
I vote for 5% 20% is still illegal so you might as well go 5%

15% matches a little bit better than 20% just because the front sees more light from the windshield, stock is like 18%.

Personally I like a very dark strip on the windshield, mine is 5%.

 

Have any pictures of that strip looking out from the drivers seat?
Seems like that much contrast would make the windshield feel really small.

 

Theres a pic in my gallery, I can get a diff one if you want. I don't think it makes the windshield look small... It really helps with the sun in the morning and evening, I never have to wear sunglasses because it completely blocks the glare.

i went with 20% on all windows! looks great and very dark. im worried about the police now but o well its worth it. also got the tint strip! thanks for all the help guys ill get a pic on here soon!
