Messed up my Niteshades project

I have to ******ING START OVER. I was finishing up in kinda low light last night and the clear went on VERY spotty and looks like butt crack. So i get the pleasure of sanding them completely down and starting over. This time im gonna try what I will now call...."the dimple method" leave the "dimples" very light and do the rest of the tail DARK. Im thinking of masking off the dimples, spray three coats and then clearing off the dimples and hitting the whole tail with one more.

We shall see on monday how this all went. Im so not happy about removing the clear and two coats of nite shades.

Would thinner work for that? Or should I sand?

Whew man...that sucks dude! I don't know if I'd sand it or not...seems like you'd run a risk of scratching the lens too much. I'm not sure about thinner either because thinner sometimes has a crazy reaction to certain plastics.

Hmmmm...this is a stumper, and one that my newbie mind can't get around. I'd say some of the pros will chime in shortly though.

Should be fine to sand w/ 1200 or above. Was it spray can clear or w/ a gun?

^ Hey, you're who I was lookin to answer me. Your the DIY paint expert It was rattle can and I knew better, but for some stupid reason I did it anyway. Whats worse is that it looked great with no clear, I just wanted it to be perfect and instead I ended up with CRAP.

Am I right in thinking that I can break through clear and 2 coats of niteshades with an 800 or so and then go to 1200 to smooth out the lense before RE-applying the niteshades?

I would start w/ 1500. You might be able to smooth out the clear enough to shoot some more on it. Shouldnt take much sanding to get that stuff off. You can possibly get by w/o redoing the niteshades

Its almost like the clear ate into the niteshades a bit too...Its just all around aweful. This is normally something im good at so this is EXTREMELY frustrating to me. Instead of working (which is where i am) Im thinking about how soon I can start fixing these tails.

dont know if these pics will tell you much, but here they be...

Yea I think you can barely scuff it back up and reshoot the clear. Doesnt look near as bad as I was thinking

It almost looks like the night shades wasn't 100% dry before you put the clear on. Whatever the case, it don't look as bad as I thought...

It possible the Nite wasnt all the way dry, which would explain the orange peelish effect i got when I sprayed the clear. Anyway, ill sand and reapply and show you guys where I got when I get there.
