Windshield Eyebrow Tint Question
wow i didnt know the "slit" yall were talking about was that big
i think the 97-03 rearviews sit a little lower so its not really a problem for me
but if they did my tint like that i definately wouldnt let it fly
and yeah the shops on 518, its got a big sign out side that says Justins Streetbeat
it shouldnt take long as long as the tint guy isnt busy

Hey wheeler and all....
Looking at your photo, that is exactly what mine looked like.
Now, I don't know about you guys, but that ring of untinted glass around the base of the mirror, bothered the heck out of me ! So, I brainstormed on that for a bit, then came up with an odd little solution that actually worked fantastically :-)
I went to a large local hobby shop, and picked up some black, modelers clay. No... not playdough :-) Actual modelers clay. It comes in a little 2 oz brick, for like $2, in all different cool colors.
Anyway, I just rolled and formed a piece about as thick as a pencil, and 3" long. I then wrapped it around the base of the mirror support, and smashed it into the corners. Added a few more small chunks here and there, worked it in all smooth and pretty, and Bam ! Problem solved ! And nobody has ever noticed the fix :-)
I know, this really needs a photo.....
Okay, give me a minute....
Please excuse the poor photo... low light, hand held

Anyway, one could probably take a bit more time and effort, and work it in even smoother and cleaner, if he thought it was worth it....
But about that slit above the actual hole for the mirror, mine was pretty good, but I think that big gap around the base of the mirror would be even more distracting anyway.
Peace,
Fish

Fish how big of a strip did you get (how many inches wide) and what %? i have factory tint on the backs and 20% on the fronts, should i et 20% on the brow to match or just go limo on the brow?
Good grief, Fish! What a great job you did! Is this "modeling clay" something that doesn't harden, or maybe hardens very slowly like glazing putty? And, I suppose it's kind of "sticky" so that it doesn't just fall out?
Anyway, it looks super!

There is a guy in Oakdale that does them for 20 bucks and does a sweet job. He removed my rear view and cut out the button area. He does a lot of them so he has templates for most trucks.
Msall, I would match the "brow" with the front windows. My "brow" is a lot darker than my driver/passenger windows and it kind of bugs me.

Thats what i was thinking. How far is Oakdale from Davis?
Just to support our local cops, one of whom got blown away about a month ago - If I were a cop, and I stopped you for a "traffic violation", or maybe just to tell you a brake light was out, I'd hate to approach your vehicle if I couldn't see into it.
We have all kinds of nuts here that seem to like to prove how macho they are by pulling a pistol and shooting anyone that irritates them. I know, if you roll your window down it's not a factor, and I do that, but, what if you "forget"? Or, what if the cop comes to the other window, like he did in California when I did something stupid and he pulled me over (let me go with a warning - nice guy).
So, before you make your windows look like the ones in limos, think about the guys who are putting their life on the line every day, trying to help us all get along together.
After all, what are you doing in your truck that needs to be hidden? Picking your nose?
Oh, and if someone "stares" in at you - "stare" right back! See who "blinks first!

Hey Jack....
Yes, just modelers clay. The brand is called "Sculpy". It hardens really slowly, but they say on the package that you can bake it, and it will not shrink or change shape. So I figure that it will eventually become rock hard baking under the hot Summer sun. I really don't think its "stuck" to anything, its just squeezed in behind the curve, of the base of the mirror foot, and formed in a complete ring, so unless something hits it and breaks it, I think it will be a "lifetime of the truck... or at least the windshield" thing.

Fish

Thanks Fish - It's easy to see you're having fun with your truck.
So, when you take the boat out behind it, you've got to post some pictures of the fish!

this is exactly what my tinter did. he removed the mirror, and everything else in its way and left the mounting bracket and went outside the truck, had a girl with a light inside the truck outline the bracket as he razor cut it out. no slits no shotty work. its legit and i love it. 20 bucks 5%.
