blacked tail light mod

has anyone here tried just going to the store, buying some 5%tint and laying it over your taillights? I have a 06 and my tails are smooth so I dont believe it would be that hard. I am trying to get that blacked taillight look and it just makes sense to me that it might work. I plan on getting aftermarkets one day but I just figured why not try it out...and If it works good, why not the headlights as well?! anyone have any opinions about it?

When you tint windows, the tint goes on the inside. It wont hold up to weather conditions I dont think...

VHT nightshades is a translucent paint. Just take your lights off, set them on some grass or something, and spray an even coating over them. It will make them black...

runs about 20$

also they are a HUGE pain in the a** to install. my brother bought some for his charger and ended up throwing them away and buying some VHT niteshades and some clear spray paint. if you've never installed or messed with tint i prob. wouldn't try it, the contour of the taillights is what makes it so hard to put in w/o gettin all the wrinkles and creases worked out perfectly. even if you buy pre-cut ones u sometimes see on ebay. i've had VHT niteshades on mine for about a yr. and the only bad thing is that i think they may have lightened up and i may have to give them another coat. it may have also been that i used some cheap clear spray paint. next time i'll prob. buy a couple of those automotive clear coat sprays that come in 6-8oz. cans.

i have a buddy who tinted the tail lights of his mustang. Cheap mod. Takes lots of practice. Also it only stayed on the tail light for about 3 months. After that it started to bubble and look like crap.

sumthin like that might be up ur alley. otherwise, i'd stick to sprayin em. thats wat i did to 3 sets on my s10. on the last 2, i dusted regular black spray paint on em wit bout 4 coats of clear & got the same result. but thats too risky cuz u might paint too much lol

what you do is get some thick weather and element proof tint made for tails....some are vinyl.....morking at a car audio shop ive seen it done...and done it many times....you do it just like tint but MAKE SURE THE EDGES ARE CUT SMOOTH...nothing worse than a sloppy job...eprsonally i jsut liek covers...i can take em off when i want and they are alot easier to put on....also if you screw up you can always do it again...
