not your average niteshade question

I was thinking today, about how to black out my chrome. i don't want to paint it all black...then it hit me...would nightshades work on chrome? Would it give it that "black chrome look"

has anyone thought of or tried this? I haven't thought how i would prep the chrome to do this, only thing i can think of is maybe a very light abrasive like toothpaste then a prep cleaner. maybe some 0000 steel wool? (before you flame the steel wool idea, you can use 0000 steel wool to clean lots of stuff, even glass, it wont scratch.

someone on here used niteshades to blackout their chrome badges. it didnt come out like black chrome, it looked like flat black. im not sure how many coats he put on but i bet if you put 1 or 2 real light coats it may look like black chrome

I tried nightshades over the chrome with the same intent. I hoped to cover the ford badges enough so that the blue would dissapear and would retain a smoked chrome look elsewhere but it just went on flat and didn't give the appearance I was after. You have to scuff them well so it doesn't go on blotchy. The chrome F150 badges didn't turn out well either so I coated them with Krylon but continued to lay down nightshades over one ford emblem. In the shade its all black but in the sun the chrome has a somewhat red tint. The krylon looks better.

Save yourself alot of effort and take your chrome and have it powder coated "Candy Black". It will look much better than nightshades on chrome.
