Aux. Reverse lights?

I've done some searching on the board and found a thread or two speaking of this. I've got pretty poor visibilty out my rear window due to my tinting. Daytime is fine, it's the night that really gives me issues. So I was thinking of putting some LED's or something somewhere under the bumper of my '04. The other thing is, how do you all think I should wire them? I don't want to have and extra switch just to back up. Can I wire in a relay and still tap the reverse wire? I only want to do this one time and do it right. Thanks for any input.

You should be able to tap into the reverse light wiring itself since LED's have almost no draw.

I would tap the reverse lights to switch a relay, that way they'll come on automatically, and put less wear and tear on that small reverse circuit. The benifits of using the relay would also you wire an auxilary switch so the that you can have them come on to see your hitch in the dark (useful). See mine and patman03's gallery for photos and ideas.

Search for reverse fogs and it's in the electrical thread.

Here is my reverse lighting. I just put the LED's in the mudflaps this week and they do help light up the path.

How did you wire up the led bar? I have one too and right now I have not wired up the reverse lights.

That would be good if you tow a lot, but I personally think that thing sticks out like a sore thumb.

I hope to do a mod like this sometime... maybe this spring when my garage warms up some.

One thing I'm planning on doing - tie the relay in to your cargo light so when you hit the unlock button it will light up the auxiliary lights as well. This will also remove the need to add a switch to turn the lights on... the switch that is there now to turn on the cargo light (on mine I just roll the dash dimmer all the way up, it also turns the inside lights on) will also turn on the auxiliary lights.

Good luck

I just tapped into the 7 pin plug wires for the reverse (the mudflaps are tapped in also). I actually got the newest bar "firestorm" and it says not to wire into the trailer wires. I have to wait till the weather warms up to run all the wires everywhere. I'm not too happy about that!

In theory could you make a 6-7 pin harness for the Fire and Ice? I use my 4 pin trailer harness but hardly never use the 7 pin.

I actually saw a late model blacked-out Dodge Ram just the other day here [VA, Beach] with the Whitenight and, not only did it NOT stick out far at all, but, it looked damn nice!

The adapter idea would work but I want to make the Fire and Ice harness use the 7 pin. Cut off the 4 pin and hardwire all 5 wires into a 7 pin connector. Or I guess I could just hardwire it all into the trailer harness. Is that what you did with yours? Did you use a relay or fuse or just direct wire?

My fire and ice bar is plugged into the 4 pin and the backup wire is tapped into the reverse wire on the 7 pin with no fuse or relay. As for the mudflaps, they too are plugged into the 4 pin (right now only the ground) and the reverse wire is also tapped in with the bar. I got 4 pin splitters with the mudflap lights so you can have your lights and tow without unplugging anything.
