FX4 grill

Has anybody ever painted their FX4 grill? I went to a local paint shop and they said that type of plastic couldn't be painted, that it wouldn't look very good and it would chip. I have only seen one other truck painted.

I have a 03 and I painted mine and I painted the plastic cowl under the windshield with no problems.

I used the Krylon Fusion Black. and masked and washed it real good. Came out fine.

I can't imagine ford changing the plastic that the grills were, the newer ones look like the same cheap *** plastic mine is.

Worse case senario, you mess it up and have to go to home depot and buy raid gutter guard for a grill, at least the ricer honda kids will think you are "`da bomb"

LOL

I don't think you'll have a problem.

Just recently got backed into at a CVS and had to replace my bumper. Luck be to me, my buddy manages a body shop, and I got the bumper replaced and painted for free. Now while they had my two tone trim color mixed, I slipped the painter $100 and he sprayed my flares and my grille (my buddy's GF's idea) and it looks SICK SICK SICK. I was contemplating an FX2 grille, but the suckers are $271 from Ford, $220 dealer cost, and I'l be damned if I can find one anywhere on Ebay.
This was a great, cheaper alternative, that after it was said and done........
LOOKS AWESOME. Ties my bumper in real nice with the grille.
Someones lying to you about not being able to paint it. The guy that painted my grille is a top notch pro. They need to use adhesion promoter, spray it, and seal it. Try another shop. I personally couldn't spray paint mine........ love my truck too much. Bottom line is, either way it can be done!

Pictures! Gimme pictures!

I've got the same color scheme you do and am curious to see what that looks like. Are the flares you're referring to the OEM ones (I thought they pretty much matched the 2-tone color already) or aftermarket ones?

Here ya go!!!

Whole truck: Showing flares matched with bottom two tone

Quarter shot: Showing flare tied into bumper with grille in view

Flash contrasts grille and bumper with black truck

Last but not least. You can see the whole grille it PTM with the two tone

Hope these help. Lemme know what ya think. I've got FX4 badges on their way. Can't wait to see how those tie in instead of the blue Ford oval.

Mine came painted from the factory. Maybe the body shop you went to doesn't want to do the job. I would try a different shop.

Looks good Mike. I need to get over to Val's and get my windows fixed. Joe said you had yours done, and it was cheap. You need to go there with me some time so I can get the same deal.

Yeah, ...... looks WAY better. No green. Still not "perfect" but I am WAY happier with the new shade. Thanks for the help posting these pics. She's moving DIRECTLY across US19 into a new shop this week. I'm off Weds and Thurs all day. Lemme know when ya wanna go. $50 to fix it, that includes peeling the old film, and 2 applications (a day apart) of 20% per front window.... not a bad deal.

Thats what I was told too. Im currently having my stock black plastic Door handle buckets painted the same color as my truck. He said they have to spray it first with some adhesion that will help make the paint stick to the plastic. he said it works really well. I figured Id give it a shot and try, I bought some solid chrome handles to go with it like the Mark LT.
