decent brush guard?

i have searched the forums and the net for a decent brushguard and i have only found 1. the genuine steel brush guard. my main problem with them is they look really bulky and stick out way to far. now i know that they need to in order to clear the grill when you open the hood. but is there any others i should consider? i would like to keep it under $500. anyone had any luck with the hunter brush guard off ebay? or the smittybilt ones that are on clearence there?

I have a Westin Sportsman Chrome-SS one and I think it hungs the front pretty good. Yeah they are pretty pricey at about 750 but they do fit well and hold up great. I've had my for about 3yrs now and still looks new just polish it couple times a year. My trucks a 2000 but should give ya pretty good idea on it.

Only thing I to do was to take them off to mount the brackets btwn them and the frame rails. Then just used the factory bolts and put them back on. It also came with to other brackets to support the top of the guard that went thru the gap btwn the grill and the bumper, but used existing bolts. I didnt have to do any drilling, just put it together and line it up. I did add a zipp tie to both vertical rails at the bottom to keep the rubber part on the steel after it started to come off one them. It was only held one with rubber cement...at least thats what it looked like.

Yeah what you're thinkin' is the way I thought about it. I wanted something alittle more aero looking not so bulky or huge out there. Thats why I like the safari style guards as they fit tighter to the front and follow body lines better. You won't be dissappointed. The best ones are Westin Sportsman, GoRhino, or Manik. they're all style about the same and come in both black and Chrome-Stainless

this looks like a stout grill guard too, heavier than westin or less expensive guards...you won't regret having all that steel in the front should you hit something....and yes you are right, TX is all about trucks...
