LED signal lights

Has anyone used the Jam Strait LED signal bulbs. I have an 07 Supercrew and would like to put some LED brake lights and signal lights on it. I see my local Checkers carries the Jam Strait brand of LED replacement bulbs. I was going to buy a set, but then saw the load equalizers. Does anyone know if I will need these load equalizers on my 07. If anyone has any pictures, I like to see how they look.

wy,

I have LED bulbs. I've had them for about 7 months already. I have equalizers on all four. If you don't get the equalizers.. the blinkers will blink hyper and give you this ANNOYING buzzing sound in the cabin when they are on. Here are some pics. Sorry for the quality.. Still trying to learn this 10.1mp sony..

Also, one thing to note is that many of the LED bulb sets will cause the blinkers to flash fast (abnormally fast). FYI

How much did the rear lamp setup with equalizers cost you?

Correct RockPick. The fast blinking is due to the differences in electrical consumption between the LED and filament bulb. This difference causes your computer to "see" a blown bulb due to the lower power consuption of the LED bulb. Therefore, your computer will cause your bulbs to blink faster to alert you of a blown bulb.

Equalizers fix this issue by adding a resistor to the circuit.

NC,

One rear LED was like 9.99 in early '06.. the equalizers are sold at Advance Auto Parts or Auto Zone for about 12.99. They come in pairs. You will need 4 equalizers. One for each LED bulb (2 turnsignals front and 2 turnsignals rear. )

Here are pics of one of my equalizers.

I did the same, but the LED's that I had in the taillights were not bright enough. They could barely be seen in the daylight. I went back to standard bulbs in the rear, but still have the LED's in front. I'm gonna get the Hella LED taillight assemblys when I get the $$

I have LEDs in my tails and front signals, but they are a better design for our housings than the ones posted above. The ones above only have LEDs facing outward and don't take advantage of the relectors inside the housings.

This is what mine look like:

You don't need to use load balancers, all you need is an LED specific flasher from someone like superlumination.com and you'll be fine...no hyper blinking and dead simple to install. The only other thing that you'll need to buy if you are switching your tail bulbs out is a 100ohm resistor for your 3rd brake light. Without a resistor up there the light will receive a small amount of power and your cruise control will not work as it'll think the brakes are on.

I was only planning to put them in the front at the moment, I have not decided what to do yet with the rear lights.

If you put them in the rear taillights, be sure to get "side-firing" so the LEDs will shine into the reflectors. Forward-firing only are okay for the fronts (amber) but side-firing will increase the brightness ten-fold.

My fronts: (and old Sylvania bulbs)

So I bought my turn signal bulbs form super lumination and well my bulbs flash quickly when signalling but flash slow when the hazards are on.

I just ordered reverse lights, turn signals, and dome lights from v-led.com. They seem okay. Pricing was resonable. Now I just have to save up and get the new recon smoked red led tails.

Did you get a LED specific flasher? I'm guessing no.

The hazards ignore the load and simply flash at the specified rate.

Buy yourself a new flasher and you'll be good to go.
