Painting grill

I would like to paint my grill white, what is the easiest way to do this and is there a special paint I should be using, or do I go out and by an aftermarket grill(who and where)? I have a 01 F150 Supercab Lariat.

If you have the honeycomb grille.....just clean it really well to get all the bugs and whatever oils might be on there. Use dishwashing soap and then rub it down with rubbing alcohol. Spray some coats of primer and then 3-4 coats of white paint and then some coats of clear.

Use a paint thats designed for plastics - Duplicolor is usually a good brand.

There is a good post in this forum from Patman03 with some pics and tips on removing the grill insert from the surround. I painted mine black and I used Krylon spray for plastic.

That looks awesome. One last question for you though. How do I take the grill off, is it fairly simple and how long do you let the paint dry for?

I used Krylon spray paint that is made for plastic. I think leaving the honeycomb grille black would look better.

should i use a Krylon primer as well as Krylon clearcoat? should i scuff it at all?
or........
have you heard of duplicolor fusion? i guess it is supposed to be applied with no primer and no clearcoat. they say just a couple layers of the fusion paint and it has a chemical reaction with plastic and stays....??

hmm

I've never used the Fusion paint but.....I think if you prep it right, primer it and paint, almost any paint will last. I didn't clearcoat mine but I would suggest using the same brand of primer, paint, clearcoat if you go that route. Sometimes mixing brands can affect outcome.

sorry i didnt make it back to this tread until now. Well Ive got instructions in that thread on how to pull off the grill and surround i belive....

and i just washed the grill really well, dried in the hot sun for a few minutes while i shook the paint up. I used some paint from autozone that was designed for interior/exterior plastic. Gloss black, no clear coat. I will probably put a clear on when i am done with my project grill.
