Should I paint mine the Dark Stone like my truck color or go with black since my grill is black. I would also like to eventually upgrade my grill to a FX type grill witht he horizontal black bars, no chrome.

Now if I could get a swap for the AZ Beige bumpers vs keeping the factory chrome ones and color match the lower front and back of the truck!

Up to you, but I'd try the stone color if you can get it (only because it's so dark), but then I'd be very tempted to paint the grill stone too. Depends upon how much trouble you want to go thru to get that color.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will go with the DK Stone. If I went black, the surround would be more prominent and really noticable being the only color vertical on the front end. I may end up painting the grill but only after I get a horizontal bar for a full color match.

Thanks for the input.

Amen brother!! I just couldn't resist the temptation of saving that much money. Painting was the easy part, and it they look awesome. However, I struggled getting them back together and fear that I may have warped the black housing or something bc I couldn't get the lens to line up just right. I got them back together and from a distance they look awesome, but when you look close the entire head light assembly looks like it's bulging out or something. One things for certian, the head lights are built FORD tough!

I was rushed towards the end of the project, I used clear silicone and some kind of bonding agent stuff similar to epoxy but no mixing(can't remember the name). I wonder if I could try taking them back apart or should I just order the HD's.

I had to pull mine back apart to spray a clearcoat but this time I took as much of the old sealant off so they went back together much easier. Used black RTV to reseal,(a lot of it, esp in the corners).

When I put mine back together one end didn't want to snap back into place so I wrapped a towel around the headlight and cranked it into place with a ratchet strap until the sealer dried. They stayed snapped into place. My towel got covered with silicone,oh well at least the headlights turned out ok.I guess I can use them for spares,I already have real HD headlights on my truck.I just needed a project to keep me busy.

I really like the looks of these black head lights, I'll try to post some pictures this weekend. After inspecting everything this morning the passenger side light is the one that didn't seat back into black housing that well. I'm very critical of things and will probably be the only one to really notice it. For $250 bucks I think I can live with for a while instead of buying the HD lights. Maybe this weekend I can take the passenger side light apart and re-do it.

Up front right now I've got black head lights, tinted my fog lights, and Hella black magic dirving lights mounted to a black bull bar. My truck is red/dsg lower. Last project will be a black billet grill.

I'd take it and pull it back apart. I doubt it will be as tough as the original sealant. I've got to do mine too...

I tried with mine. I used the 240 setting and I finally got them apart. Before I began painting I noticed the amber snap-in diffuser was warped.

Not bad but enough to see once people take notice. *&$^#(#%(@#

Oh well, They weren't my originals and now I am glad that I got some throw downs to try this with.

Subscribing to this thread as I may try this too. I wonder if the satin black would be better than gloss black? I sure would like to see a photo or two of where someone used the glossy black.

Anyway, I may get everything ready for this weekend and try it.

:Crosses fingers and prays:

So do you have any pics of them painted the Dark Stone?

Nope. Tossed em. Wasn't happy with the amber reflector warped. It was bad enough that I think that it may pop out at a later time. Oh well, bought em to try to paint Dark Stone. Will go for the ALREADY painted black. GRRR

$45 gone !

Well, you live and learn. I attempted to do this but got too nervous after they did not coma apart easily that I said forget it. I already had the FX2 dark grey headlights on my truck, was just attempting to mess with the pair that I took off.

Yep, I was probably a little impatient and kept sticking them back in the oven when I couldn't get them apart. I probably did it too much and warped that orange side reflector. I would have loved them to be Dark Stone liek the truck but I will just order the HD lights and gloss out the honeycomb grille.
