hey all, ive been wanting to do this to my f150 too and found this post and just basically registered just to get some info, now ive tried this once before but the oven method was very inaffective, i ended up messing a corner of the backing up by bending it too far, but i did fix it by reaheating and molding back so im done with the oven, anybody think hot water would work? just set the lights in the bath tub and pour simmered (or boiled) water on em and let em sit for a few minutes the try to pry em apart by hand? could that work,.............. also anybody about know if gloss black would be as good as satin? cause ive got a ton of gloss black around but would it be worth it just to pick some satin black up? and lastly whats the significance of painting the side reflector, isnt that illegal and kinda take some of the function out of your lights? im gonna trake a second shot next sunday so any info is appreciated, thanks

Much better. I had way to much chrome on a truck thats mostly blacked out.
I used Krylon Fusion matte black on the fog lights and headlights. I also put some silverstar bulbs in both fogs and headlights and its way brighter.

With the 4 130watt KC daylighter long range lights on, brights on, and fogs on. lol it looks like the sun is flying down the road at night if you looked at my truck head on.

Before-

After-

What do ya think? I still need some covers for the KC's.

sweet, i think im just gonna hit mine with the gloss black (for variety) and tape off a little ring around the signal light and leave the side reflector amber as is but fireman i gotta ask, where did you get those signal bulbs from?

Id go with the satin...When you coat it up it gives it a gloss look because I didnt sand the reflective coating on the lights.

I cant remember where I got the turn signal bulb, however i just ordered the stealth bulbs to replace them.

i did this to my truck about mid summer and was very happy with the results... unfortunately i have recently noticed the parking light covers (yellow ones on the side) have WARPED and are about to fall out of their holders. seems like this Tx heat got to 'em.... i guess i'm gonna have to rip 'em back out and figure out what to do from there....

is it better to sand the lights down first or can you just paint over the chrome?

you dont have to, i would prolly would scuff it up a bit though

i didnt , and when i was trying to put the lights back together, it would chip in some areas , forcing me to do a lil touch up painting, not a big deal, but it got annoying after the 2nd time
