Badge Painting

Hey guys, i want to paint the F-150 badges, my plan is to paint the F and 150 the same colour as my truck (07 True Blue) and the - red (the brightest red). And leave the XLT TRITON as black. I want to do all the badges. What do you think?

Where can i buy ford colour touch up paint online for a really good price. I don't need much, just enough to do the above.

Me personally, I'd tape off the f150 part, and cut out with a exacto knife where you want to paint. Take some sand paper, 320 or so and scuff em. Then prime them, then paint. Any Auto Zone, Pep boys whoever should have Dupli-Color paint tubes, no need for online shipping blah blah, you could probably get everything in the same store. See, the badges look like they painted dull black over a chromed plastic and it flakes off, nothing to bite into. This way, at least scuffing, then priming will have some adhesion. Cool idea though.

Taping can be a PITA....try using vaseline....use a small artist paint brush to apply...then spray....when dry...just wipe off the grease.

I've restored all sorts of parts using this method...inc 100's of Ford dealer license plate frames (the metal ones) which I collect.

I'll probably use a 3 inch piece of masking tape and cut around it, I'll be painting it on but im still going to put tons of news paper around the badge. Do i need to clearcoat it at all? I'm thinking im just going to paint over it, and if it flakes i'll jsut use the excess to touch up. I want it to shine though like the real paint so would a clearcoat help? Also would the clearcoat fill in that recession...it would be nice if the whole badge was flat.

I was considering these three:
Girlfriend suggested:

Random Idea:

Original Thought:

I think i'm going to go with the girlfriend idea because the red doesn't match anything (Chrome, blue, and black truck)

Ya, the old lady has good taste, go with that idea. They are better at matching things, trust me I go through it all the time. The images look cool!

Yeah, the all blue looks better than having one letter red.

Ordered the DX blue (07 true blue). It will take 2-3 weeks for the dealership to get it in....lame. It was only $13.15 though.

Going with the GF's idea.

you should take tons of pics, and make an official write up of a How to thread.

So how much paint for the 13 bucks?

Bro, do a mock up of a "negative" version of that. It might look cool to have the numbers chromed and the background blue. A lot more work but since you did the mock up of the other colors try a negative mock and see if it might look cool.

ahh some ppl beat me to it, on my gen truck the letters are chromed and background black, the background bodypainted and letters chromed would look awesome, I think you should make the chrome the body paint color, and put in chrome fillers.

Dude, now you got me bummed out. I never even thought to give my badges a look until I saw this thread. Well now I noticed the black is already flaking off, what a poor *** paint job. My truck is just over a month old!

Looking forward to seeing your work and details on how it went.
