problem w/ chrome door handles on 2006

I just got these chrome door handles for my 2006 SuperCrew off of ebay. They looked great until one of them fell off the truck as I was driving. What really sucks is I don't know where it fell off. It seems the 3M tape isn't working. Has anyone had similar problems?? Has anyone used extra glue such as gorilla glue to hold it in place??:

I've got Putco all around my '04 Screw and to be real honest, I am not impressed with the 3M tape installation or the fitment of any of the products. The door handles fit good, but I found one loose and had to add some additional mounting tape. Initially, I cleaned everything with alcohol and used the primer just as directed and I feel like those things are going to pop off at any time. I have installed the stainless bed rail caps and tailgate caps. They don't fit exactly like the factory rails. I feel like the bed rail caps are going to fly off at any time on the highway. If I didn't have a truck box holding the front of them down, I would have to wonder if that would indeed happen. At least the tailgate cap goes on with self-tapping screws and not tape!!! But enough of that, if I were you, I would just try to clean and prime again but go to a hobby store and buy some additional mounting tape to add to the handles. They make some thicker tape that sticks like a mother! Do not use Gorilla Glue!! I am a trim carpenter and use that all the time. It expands as it dries and, in my opinion, you will do considerable damage to the stock handle underneath should you decide that you want to just pull all of the handles off entirely because they suck! Hope this post helps.:

Talking Thanks sclark

Actually found the chrome piece the other day down the street and decided to buy heavy duty double sided tape. They actually went on great and I haven't had a problem with them. I did look at the gorilla glue website and it did say something about expanding and I decided to go with more double sided tape. Thanks for the info!!

I'm glad it worked out for you. I would have hated to see you ever have to try and pull those things off with the gorilla glue. Don't get me wrong, I have the covers on my truck (will post some pics later) because they were a third the cost of the liquid billet handles. However, I did order the tailgate handle the other night just so that I can see and feel the quality difference. Who knows, I may end up going with the liquid billet after all.

Don't spend any money on those Putco liquid billet handles. I bought a set and luckly got my money back. Every one peeled, the chrome just started coming off bad. I got a lot of lip about them at work to because of it. They didn't fit that good either and it was hard to open the doors with them on for my kids.
I had them on when I posted my gallery pictures you can see them. It was shortly after that they started to peel.
After I got my money back I bought a set of Lincoln Mark LT handles. They fit great an look great and my kids can open the doors again.

Thank you for the heads up! That's precisely why I just ordered the tailgate handle so that I was only dealing with an $80 order instead of a $380 order. I have also heard that they stamp the 'PUTCO' name across the handle. I'm not real keen on having that screaming "aftermarket part!".

You know, I am an educated man, but I don't claim to be the brightest bulb on the tree. I NEVER even considered looking at a set of Mark VII handles! You just gave me great insight Obeone. I don't know what it is, but I guess I never considered that a truck? I will look into it. Surely you didn't buy them from the dealer. Give me a lead, if you don't mind, and possibly an idea on cost? Based on what you have told me, I may not even open the PUTCO box and just 'return to sender', call the customer service line and credit back the AMEX!

Oh, and by the way, I like the grilles. They look great. Especially the lower grille. Where did you get them. My SCrew is white also and they give yours a really good look.

Thanks
Don't install the tailgate. That one fits the worst. The edges don't look or feel sharp but it scratched the paint around the edges of it on my truck. The doors had orings on them so they didn't do that. They didn't fit that great either though. The LT handles have painted buckets with chrome Handle's.
www.discountfordpartsaty2kford.com. They have them pretty cheap. You can get a set for under $280.00 4 doors and tailgate. I would have bought mine from them but I was able to get my dealer to sell them to me for whole sale cost at $240.00. I think they retail around $380.
The upper grill is the Harley Davidson grill. I got it on ebay for $275. The chrome surround that it comes with is black. I took it off and swapped it with the chrome my grill came with. The lower grill is a Putco product. It retails for around $89.-$129. I bought it on ebay and I got it for $1 dollar but I had to pay $15 after shipping. I had to go to Lowe's and get some new nuts and washers to install because the hardware it came with was crap. I won't be buying any Putco products anytime soon.

we all know that once you put chrome door handles on, you are more than likely gonna leave em on for good. So next time use a little caulking to attach them. I had one fly off too, and now you couldnt get em off if ya had to.
