Lightning 3rd brake light mod

Howdy, I want to replace my stock 2000 3rd brake light be/c it is getting a bit hazy and has a scratch on it. I was thinking about upgrading to the Lightning 3rd brake light.

I noticed some of you have done this. Any issues? Is it a direct plug/bolt in with no wire splicing required? Does it give off the same or more light from the side auxillary/bed lights?

They look to be going for $80-100 on ebay. Is there a cheaper source?

Any other replacement suggestions besides stock?

thanks

Third Brake light

You should check out the new L.E.D. brake lights out for trucks. You can get clear lenses or you can get smoked. Depends on what you like. Price varies depending on who is selling.

I got mine from blue oval industries on ebay. They were great in dealing with. As far as assembly, unbolt the old, but unplug from the harness, a little bit in the headliner (kinda annoying, harder to reach). You have to undo the dome light and coat hooks, what ever you can to drop the headliner enough to reach then unplug. The plug has a holding tab that is similar to that of a radio capacitor on the engine (gray). So a small screwdriver (flat) is in order. Once that is unplugged and the new on is plugged in, your good to go. Because the LED part is hard wired instead of just light sockets, the whole thing has to be plugged in. Just be careful of the headliner and be patient. As far as looks, it is awesome and totally worth it. The LED is not too too bright like some, but the other lights are. In the daylight, it blends up nicely and hardly noticed bieng there. Do it!! And go through blue oval industries, very good people.

I got my 3rd brake light from Five Star Ford. Best price at the time. Unplugging the connector is a pain, but well worth it.

Agreed, even though it's not a Lightning, still looks great, small pains for large gains.
