Chrome Gas Door Overlay

I found these on Ebay and I am curious if anyone has one and how they work.

Doesn't seem like it would be that bad. Just wonder how they will hold up over time and wonder about the quality.

That sticky tape will come loose over time, just get the replacement billet aluminum door from AutoZone for $25.

Ya, for the little extra, get the whole assembly. I have the same for my 2000 flareside and it looks decent. To open, all you do is push in and it pops out. A little patience and thinking had to be done to install, wasn't a direct fit, but nice.

I can't seem to find a true replacement door for the '04 and up body style. All the ones out there are for the previous body style.

Talking

The gas door overlay is installed on my buddy's 04 scab. It's been installed for almost 2 years. It still looks good. When he installed it, he put some adhesive promoter on it. He waxes it also.

Thanks for the input. I thought the metal finish would hold up but I didn't know about the adhesive. It is just like ventvisors and I have had them on many vehicles before with no problems. Anyone else have experience with one of these??

I would be scared to have the tape on the gas door and surrounding area because if you get gas on it, you can kiss that adhesive goodbye.

You can always readhesive the door if it comes loose. The way the gas door swings open you should not get gasoline on it.

Gas Door

Josho66,

My .02. I purchased a 1 piece gas lid door that replaced the factory plastic door. Didn't like it after having the real two part door on my Mustang GT and removed. Just stood out as fake in my mind with the piece that is suppose to be fixed opening with the door. Psychological on my part, I guess.

If you clean properly with rubbing alcohol before applying the two sided tape and keep the oily fingers off the tape it should be good for 5 or more more years.

If you prefer a two piece doors they have them for the 04-05 F150 at Cabela's of all places for $60.
