Wax on black plastic
Wax on black plastic
OK so I waxed the truck for the first time since I bought it in 2004. I used an orbital buffer, also for the first time. Needless to say, I got some wax onto the black plastic parts like the door handles and part of the side mirrors. Then I went over all the black plastic with an exterior plastic/rubber product from Mothers. After about a day those areas that got some wax turned grey, while the rest stayed nice and deep black. How do you remedy this?
I have used Back to Black and I do not recommend it. It looks great for about 2 weeks, then it turs white in the crevices of the surface grain. Makes it look grey all over till you use it again. It caused the very thing I was trying to avoid. When I poured it out of the bottle and saw it was milky white colored, I started not to use it. I wish I hadn't.

PLASTIC (NON-PAINTED) EXTERIOR PARTS
Use only approved products to clean plastic parts. These products are
available from your dealer.
For routine cleaning, use Detail Wash (ZC-3–A).
If tar or grease spots are present, use Extra Strength Tar and Road Oil
Removal (B7A-19520–AA).
FWIIW, I have not used either of these products.
Bug and Tar remover works great! We detail motorcycles and have a friend that does cars and we both use the same stuff.

The best thing out for wax on your plastic trim is ..........................a pencil eraser!
Works every time, then hit it with the Back to Black. The Back to Black only works for little, it really only covers it. Then it's back!

Davidlem,
I have a black 04 reg cab that I wax every 3 months. I have ran across this same issue. One of the best products that I have found is Meguiars #39 vynil cleaner. I have found this product to work the best. comes in a spray bottle that I apply to cotton towel then wipe on then let sit for 20-30 seconds then wipe off. I have not been able to find any locally so I oder direct from Meguiars. Hope this info helps

It doesn't get any cheaper than this. take an old toothbrush or make the one your using the old one and a little water. Just brush it off, circular motions Danielson, and it'll do it. A little tedious, but it erases mistakes. Never tried the eraser, sounds good too.
