1997 Ext Cab - Tint ?....
I just bought a 1997 Ext Cab. The 1/4 windows and the rear glass have the silvery tinted factory ford glass. I want to put 20% or 5% tint on the front windows and would like to make the rear windows 'black' too...What have other ppl done to make this work? Tint shops keep telling me the dark tint behind the factory 'silver' glass will make it look worse.
Any ideas? Experiences?
thanks,

I did 5% on top of the factory tint. You cant see in my truck during the day. Forget seeing anything inside at night. The only bad thing is you have trouble seeing out also. I can't back up if it's real dark out. I have to roll the windows down and stick my head out to back up! Other than that, it looks sick!
I have been looking to do the same thing with my rear windows on my 97. They have a different tint than any other year. I called ford to see what the replacement windows costed for say, a 2000 rear window with the darker tint and they wanted an outrageous amount of money. So I then got an idea to call an auto glass replacement company and it was about 100 dollars per side for a dark tinted window for a 2000 f-150. I belive all 97-03/04 are directly replaceable.
i put 10% on the back windows and 20%(not AS illegal) on the front windows. take a look at my gallery to see. i took the side rear windows off the truck to tint them, it made it a hell of a lot easier and they are not hard at all to take off and put back on. i left the the rear slider window stock so i can easily back up and night without having to roll my windows down like ZaxJax has to

I have had my 5% on for 4 years. I drive around in the DC Metro area and have never been pulled over. How many cops are going to pull over and F-150 truck. He'll pull over the rice burner with the system thumping first before he pulls me over!
I looked at tinting the windows on my 97 x cab. Decided just to go with it. It looks fine on a sunny day just of overcast days do you get that mirror look on it. I wouldnt suggest tinting the glass on the outside its exposed to the weather too much. I did 20% all the on all the windows just wish I went a shade darker on the rear glass and 1/4 glass.
I was abit worried as well when I had the windows on mine tinted a few years back. It's a '97 as well and hs the same 'mirror' look on the back. Once I had it tinted, to me it made the mirror stand out more, but to be honest I grew to like it. I've got a lighter colored truck too, so it doesn't stand out quite as bad as it may on darker ones.
Mabey I'm just loosing my vision in old age, but I have to roll my windows down at night to back up as well... I don't remember what percent it is, but it's at the legal limit for Kentucky (I belive).
