For the past 4 months i have been riding around with blue lenses covering the fog ligths on my 2000 x-cad f-150, well just the other day i got pulled over for it. he said he could impound my truck and take me to jail( i think he was just trying to scare my), but he just told me he will let me go if i take the blue lenses off.

The blue color is kind of a deep blue, its not sky blue or navy , it is in the middle and LOOKED really cool.

I liked the blue becuase it grabbed LOTS of attention. the policeman said he noticed me about a mile away. i want to put them back on.

SO DOES ANYONE KNOW IF IT REALLY IS ILLEGAL TO HAVE BLUE ON THE FOGLIGHTS?

i have another question, does anyone have clear tail lights from autodynamic.com, and do they look good or are they foggy? does anyone know where i can find a good pair of clear tail lights?

They are 100 percent illegal in Texas. Blue is for emergency vehicles only..DONT PUT THEM BACK ON...if he sees you again with them on, he can take you to jail instead of issuing a citation...I know they look cool but use them at shows only..not on the public roadways......DAVE

I'm not surprised that they are illegal. But the thing that bothers me is that the police can confiscate your vehicle for it. .

Can they also confiscate the vehicle if the window tint is too dark? What if my tire tread is too thin? Worn shocks? Missing front plate?

I'm certainly pro-police and want each cop to have some discretion in how he handles situations, but vehicle confiscation over minor code infringements is going a bit far.

 

Hey Now, NO COP BASHING!!! That is my point about the clear corners, there is always someone out there. Unless the vehicle poses a hazard to the public, which those lights are an EXTREME STRETCH!!!, yes he can impound it in an emergency situation, like if the truck may be hit if left where you were pulled over, but since they are on there own switch, you probably just SHUT THEM OFF, otherwise, that tow thing is a scare tactic that usually works. Now don't get me wrong, if I search hard enough I wil have a car impounded, for all the right reasons of course, GEES, I even have the ability and certification to take big rigs out of service,AHHHH now that's scary. My advise to you is not to put them on, you got your brake. If it was me and you put them on when i told you not to, your A-- is in DEEP!!! Hey, you were right about the attention thing though ;-)

i'm not a DUKE, so I don't live in Hazzard KY, but if they bust your *** on fog lights, you better not even look at clear taillights, your just asking for trouble. I can tell you that that is an easy hit. They are missing the"REFLEX REFLECTOR", and that is what makes them illegal. If they have the reflector in them, then here in Pa they are ok, but that defeats the purpose. chad15adams, some things are made just for show, and for good reasons. I have been driving around town for the past about 4 MONTHS and i have past about every police officer here in Hazard, and not a single one has said anything to just now. When he had me pulled over he told me they looked nice and everything but i cant have them on, and he noticed me a mile away. Then he aske me " HOW DID YOU MAKE THEM FLICKER". and he asked me if i had them connected to my turn signal. so i think the probelem is that he thought they were flashing like police lights so he pulled me over.

then once the second cop came, he said that he has seen them but didnt say anything. So who would i go to to check what is legal in my town, does anyone know where and who i would talk to about this?

i dont think they are very strict over lighting here in hazard , cuz my brother has clear corners, and clear taillights and he recently got a speeding ticket and they looked at his lights but said nothing to him about it!

Tons of people told me that, it sucks that i have to leave them off.

I don't think it's a matter of what is legal in your town, I am sure it is the STATE Motor Vehicle Laws that they are referring to.

Here in Ohio, the State Motor Vehicle Laws prohibit the use of rotating or alternating flashing lights, and Red or Blue lights unless they are on an emergency vehicle.

One of the reason why they are illegal is because some of our not so decent citizens of these United States like to act like Law Enforcement officers and make traffic stops..Yes in Texas we use F150s as police vehicles....In some incidents, woman are raped and killed, families murdered, robbed...That is one reason they are illegal. The reason you never got stopped before is many, not a big deal, officer seen you before and thinks you are a ok guy, we to like to fix up vehicles and it does look good...but what ever the reason stay legal.
As for clear corners..Yes they are illegal due to the fact on the absence of the red reflector....If you use them make sure you find a place for reflectors (red), A PERFECT PLACE IS RIGHT BETWEEN THE BUMPER AND TAIL GATE.. I got some reflective tape from pep boys, you cant see it until night when light hits them..looks fine..Dave

Let's make sure I understand what you have here. You have blue tinted covers on your fog lights and your fog lights FLASH? If this is correct they are illegal in probably every state in the country. Flashing blue lights are for law enforcement and emergency vehicles only. Having a setup like that on your truck is a real good way to get yourself in more trouble than what you have encountered. In fact if you really do have a setup like that you had better thank your lucky stars that all they did was warn you about them.

If you have clear tail lights there ok as long as you have that strip of red reflectors. or did i read your last post wrong?

YES......REFLECTOR mounted from 15-60 inches from the ground, visible at night at 100-600 feet.....Make sure you can see the red bulbs from 300 feet in sunlight......Dave

Heres my ? I seen at Wal-Mart blue fog lights for sale I didn't give them a good look but wondered if they were legel or not.

 

what i have are covers that slide in over my fog lights that r blue. I can not make them flash, and they are BLUE they are not the lights that look blue during the day but r white during night , they are always blue. The cover is made of a $2 Clear/blue folder that i cut to fit over the light! Right now i have yellow and it looks great. i have recieved numerous complaments on it as well, but yellow sucks at night becuase right now i dont have clear corners and it clashes with the orange on the corners.

As for the clear tail lights , I want them CLEAR, so would just having a red bulb do the job?

red blubs yes for clear tail lights, red reflectors on the back yes, red, green, blue,purple or any other color than white or amber..no on fog lights..Dave
