Cool Superwhite headlight pics...

Just thought I'd share my little experiment with you all. I purchased a set of Piaa Platinum Superwhites for my truck. I also purchased a set of Eurolite Xenon Fusion bulbs for my other car. I decided to do an experiment with my truck. I took pictures of the stock bulbs, Piaa bulbs, and Eurolite bulbs. Take a look and see what you think:

Stock 9007s pattern:

Stock 9007s head on:

Eurolite Xenons pattern:

Piaa Superwhites pattern:

The pattern pictures aren't the best. The area in front of my truck is higher than the parking lot so that's why the pattern is a little odd looking. Personally I thought the Eurolites gave off a better light. I felt like I could see more clearly than with the others.

First let me commend you on the excellent post. This is the type of data we are cry for! Good job! AWESOME JOB!

As for the lights, From the pictures it looks like the eurolights do the best job!
The PIAA's look as if they are shrouded in smoke or fog though and they look very yellow. But i agree, the eurolights are the best out of the pictures.
Again great post!

Moose-man,
Can you tell me more about your intake mod? Is this an inexpensive do-it-yourself mod compared to the intake kits from K&N, WMS, Airraid, etc.? Please share and thanks!

I do agree that the eurolites look better. Excellent post F150Sven!

Damn,
i cant remember the page that has it.
Basically all you do is remove the intake silencer to allow more flow and take a drop in K&N and jurry rig it on the filter.
If i remember the page ill page is along.

Cool

You can tell by the tracers from the lights in the background that I moved the camera while taking the picture of the Piaas. That's why it looks blurry. The Eurolites definitely have a more true to life color. I may try to get a better picture tonight to give the Piaas a more level playing field.

Here is the updated picture for the Piaas. I did a much better job of holding the camera still. Unfortunatly this make all the rest of the pictures look blurry. So much for a controlled experiment.

F150Sven,

I agree, great post. I've got the 9007 Eurolites and 9006's for driving lights. ANyhow, have you noticed how when the lights are first turned on, they look a tab bit blue, then after about 5 minutes, they just look very white? I have H7's in my Volvo (high and low OEM wattage) which is where I first noticed it. The Volvo's headlights are MUCH better than these trucks. A vert clean direct pattern.

Anyway's, just an observation....I like them! And the Eurolites are a fraction of the cost. I gave $14 $15 and $18 for H7's, H1's, 9005's and 9007's where the 9007's were the most. Ebay! Or email the guy direct. He's quick and will ship any size or quantity and you don't need to bid. He does Dutch so they're all the same price. Greg at zvs@worldnet.att.net

Cool

F150Sven,
Pretty cool test. I have the same Piaa lights and I noticed a substantial difference. I took a chance on the Piaa's, but with your post it would have pushed me over the edge, had I not tried them. I hope I got a good price on them I paid $65 installed here in Anchorage, Ak. That seemed pretty low to me or is that on par?

FamilyRide,
What kind of lights do you have on the Volvo? If you do the same kind of upgrades on the Volvo check out WWW.IPD.com, they are the ultimate Volvo people. My wife drives a red '99 S70 AWD, and we love it.

The website is WWW.ipdusa.com. Just in case you are interested.

That is a really nice car. My wife would live to have one but it's hard to justify in Texas.

I put Eurolite stock wattage bulbs in it. We have a '98 S70 GLT and it takes H7's in high and the low beams and H1's in the driving lights. I think the driving lights stock are 35w and these are 55w I believe. They are great! And I paid $14 and $15 for the H1 and H7's respectively.

Familyride,
Our S70 Awd has the same engine, but more weight than your GLT the GLT must scoot nicely . I have to agree I would not have purchased the AWD if not up here in Alaska. Thanks for the info. I going to upgrade the headlights first then upgrade the highbeams.

Yes, it's surprising how it runs. When I drive it I accidently get whells spinning quite a bit. It's amazing to take off and get front wheel spin like that without trying. Of course I drive it a little harder but I'm also not used to a turbo and one that really does start pretty big boost pretty quick. Now the T-5, wow, that's even more amazing........Actually, I thought the wagon came with the high pressure turbo not the low pressur like in the GLT?

I love the way the eurolites are looking...im one of them guys who bought the piaas...and not too impressed with them. the only thing is that with cheaper bulbs...dont you have a better risk of them not last as long..yeah they may look great now, but will they later? but damn, you tempting me to get some because it looks hella lot better. doesnt the eurolites run a little hotter and take more wattage?

Cool

LoCo,

The ones I got are marked as 60/55w, same as stock. After running with the Piaas for a while, I've decided to go the the Eurolites in the truck. I bought a matching pair of 9005s for the fogs, too.

The Piaas are whiter and brighter than stock, but not as noticeable as the Eurolites. I bought the Euros off of Ebay. Do a search on "9007" or "9005" which ever you need. I bought both sets from the same guy, nobleman69. He runs dutch auctions where you can get them for 16/pr + s&h.

You can go thru 3 sets of the euros for the less than the price of a set of Piaas, so even if they last 1/2 as long you're still money ahead.

Enough with the arm twisting

Familyride,
Our's is a sedan also. They only made them in '98 and '99. A lot of the AWD sedans have low reliabilty ratings, ours has been trouble free for the first 20,000 miles(knock on wood). I have never driven a T-5, but I have heard they flat get it .
