Question Off road lights

What is the BRIGHTEST off road light I can get. In JcWhitney they have some off road lights that are 150watt, which from what I read is pretty dang bright. Even the Warn lights arent that bright, they are only $30 each too. Any suggestions on a good set of lights?

Cool

Well, take it from me, I'm the brightest F150 around. I have 10 165 watt KC Daylighters on my truck. The 165 which is now the 150 watt Daylighter is the brightest non HID off-road light out there, trust me. It has 385,000 candlepower and will project light for miles. I truly believe there is no other light out there that will shine any farther down the road or trail. There are a bunch of other guys on this board with KC's, and they will agree with me. The second brightest light would be from PIAA, the Pro 80 XT, which is bright, but doesn't shine as far as the Daylighter, and this has been tested since I had a pair sitting in my shop for 2 months.

From KC's site:
Our shock mounted lights began with the famous Daylighter that we invented and patented in 1972. Not only does the Daylighter use a heavy-duty rubber gasket (bulb holder) that isolates the lens, reflector, and bulb from the metal housing and elements of weather, but it also includes our patented shock mounting system.

The KC HiLiTES shock mounting system was developed as a way to isolate the lamp unit from the mounting bracket or surface to which the the light is mounted. This system successfully reduces lamp failure do to vibration and has been proven through the extremes of off road racing. Now, the shock mount system has been updated from the original to require no extra drilling. We currently offer a wide range of 6 inch round lights in various finishes and wattages that include this proven shock mount system.

Daylighter Pair Pack Systems include:
Two All Steel 6" round Daylighter housings w/ Shock Mount System
Optical quality Glass Lens for maximum Clarity and Light Projection
100 Watt Halogen, 130 Watt Ice Blue Halogen, or 150 Watt Sealed Beam Bulbs
Precision Polished and Focused Reflectors
Two KC light Covers
Complete Pre-terminated Wiring Harness with illuminated Switch and 40 amp Relay
Illustrated instructions for easy installation .

Good luck in your choice, can't go wrong with the Daylighter.

Question

Hey Mudder, which finish do you like the best out of your lights? Is the stainless shiny like the chrome? Just trying to decide between the two. Thanks

First off, had I know long ago that I was gonna add all these lights then I would have got all black. But up top I have 4 stainless and 2 chrome. The stainless look very good and have held up nicely in the year that they have been on there, but the chrome are starting to look dull, and that is a no no. I'm not gonna have those lights on there if they are gonna be dull, so I may have to replace them with a new set of stainless. But, if KC would be so generous as to replace all six of mine for me, and send me some black ones for free, then I would have no problem with that at all Anyway, pick the stainless, they are really good.

definately get the stainless. They'll be the last set you ever have to buy, and they're not that much more, really. (Found them at carparts.com with the coupon for $84 for the set with shipping!!!)

Mudder, I was reading on the site, and saw the Titanium housing calling your name.... all black, no rust.... :-)

OH, and like mudder said, the brightest are the HID lights... they're only 35 watts, but they're 600,000 candle power (a 165 watt daylighter is 385000 candelpower). Personally, I'd rather just mount another set of 150 watters and save the extra $1500 for something else. :-)

385,000 candle power is alot, BUT in JcWhitney they have a pair of 100 watt lights that are 380,000 candle power, so I figure the 150 watt must be brighter than the KC's, plus they only run $30 each. Although I am very sure they wont last as long, I am going for price and brightness. What are ya'lls thoughts?

Personally, I think you'll be disapointed with the cheaper lights if you plan on using them. I've had a set like that and they were about as bright as a wal-mart light. The KC's are a LOT brighter. If there was a better light on the market, trust me, it would be on my truck.....right Mudder!!!!

My first set of off-road lights were the EAGLE (EYE?) brand. They are supposed to be 130-150 watts ( which has nothing to do with brightness) and 300,000 candle power. I bought some KC's and I don't even want to use the cheap ones for back up lights!
the difference is like night and day (pun intended) The quality of the KC's is great, fit, finish everything. Plus they come with a 23 YEAR warranty!!

I got the first set and then ordered up some more.

Lightbulb

I wouldn't necessarily make my decision based on the 'numbers' on the cheaper lights. It's just like everything else, in that you get what you pay for. Besides things like the finish chipping and rusting, seals leaking sooner, on 'Wal-Mart' lights, the anti-shock construction of the KC's would pay for itself vs. constantly replacing the bulbs in the cheap lights (BUT, a few years ago I bought my first two sets of KC's from Wal-Mart. I Don't think they sell them anymore though)
