Question Fog Lights?

Hello All,

My F150 did not come with the factory fog lights but does have the holes for them in the bumper. I really want the look of the stock fog lights but the ford dealer wants $300 for them. Has anyone found somewhere cheaper or aftermarket lights that would look good and fit into the light openings? Any ideas or info would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Cool

I wish I could help you more but I'm in work and my accessory catalog from Ford for my expy is home. They sell a fog light kit to install the factory lights. I believe it was cheaper than that. If someone else out there has the catalog handy please look it up. You might want to stop by a different dealer and ask for the catalog or if one is available for F150s.

If no one else posts I'll look it up at home---Bob

The factory ones have a switch built into the regular lite switch. It is "Off", "Park". "Lights" and "Pull for fog". To have the factory type I guss you must replace the switch. Thus $300.

PS - OEM Fog lights cannot be turned on alone and go off on high beam.

Cool

Well I think that your dealer doesnt like you very well. I called to find out how much they were for my 98 and they told me that list was less than 250. I can get them from them for mine for about $188 and change. That is a full kit with the new switch and all. It is a simple kit it all fits perfect. So I wouldn't try to get any aftermarket to fit in the same hole if I was you.

Question

So you do not have to replace the main wiring harness to install the factory fog lights? I know in many vehicles that did not originally come with fog lights..the main harness must be replaced and this is very expensive.

Wink

Here is the low down as I know it. If you buy the kit it comes with the lenses and the sockets for bulbs. It also contains the new switch and the required hardware for DRL.

If you want to find the plug for them (they should be there) get down on your knees....or you can just lay down. If you look up from under the bumper toward the lights you will see a blue plug hanging from a retainer up by the side marker light. There is one on both sides. This is supposed to be for the fogs.

It would not make sence for Ford to make another harness just because you dont want fogs.

You can just buy the light itself from one of those collision parts place, however you will need to find the light socket from either the dealer or salvage yard. I remeber there was one place on the internet that sell the foglight for $50 a piece. I will post the site later when find it.

I did this install on my first 97F150 xl. The kit cost me $225 from the dealer. The instll was straightforward and easy. You get the 2 lights a new switch and a relay that gets mounted under the hood by the main power distribution center. The hardest part was poking the wire through the firewall to be placed in the new switch. As I remember there was a little confusion as to the placement of this wire. And once it is placed in the switch there is no removing it. I was going to go the after-market route my self but decided I wanted the clean factory look and besides, I think the stock one look the best. No offense to anyone with aftermarketlights.

Thanks for all of the info., very much appreciated! I found replacement factory fog lights for $69.95 a piece at usautoparts.com. If anyone knows where to get just the foglights themselves for less please let me know?

Thank You everyone for your help!

It is the plastic part below the front bumper, the fog lamps and the wiring for (dealer cost $330) I finlly got it for $286, I just told each dealer this dealer has it cheper. The fog lamps by them self is $90 from the dealer.

Cool

I just installed that very kit, did you install it or have the dealer do it. After it's all said and done, I love them. But the instructions that came with the kit are the poorest I've ever seen. The lower valence went on easily and the lights mounted to the bumper without any problems. Routing the wiring and tapping into the left headlight is a major pain. I decided not to use the new switch that came with the kit because I wanted the fog lights to come on when the auto-lamps came on. Now whenever the headlighs are on low beam the fog lights are on, perfect! Overall a very good kit, all part's fit perfectly and requires only basic mechanical skills to install, must be why the instructions are so poor, you do not really need them.

JA_Stang86,
I just put the Fog Lamps on, the whole Kit by my-self, took about 1 1/2 hours.
Looks great. The cost was $290 tax and all.
