F150 Tailgate emblem removal?

Well, i finally decided to acetone my badges. Ive done the tail gate, and what do you know I like them better the other way (kinda going for the blackout effect)

I figure I will just rip that emblem off, but before I do i would like to know, is it just held on by adhesive, or are there holes in the tailgate for the emblem to go through. If its just adhesive and nothing else how would you suggest taking it off. Will just heating it up work.? Thanks

It's on there with two posts... also, I found that a hair dryer and alot of patience was adequate... be very careful using ANYTHING to aid in prying it off!!!

Thanks guys.

Joe, I was thinking of painting them like that but there is still to much chrome.

I will probably just try to repaint it to look the factory way. I think it will look better with gloss black too instead of the flat black that is on there.

Try using dental floss as a "chain saw" of sort, and cut them off. That is what I did.

Put blue painter's tape around the emblem on the paint to protect that area, and cut in from one side. Work around the top, other side, and the bottom and off it comes.

Then you have the remaining tape on the paint to work off with a hairdryer, WD-40 or adhesive remover ( which ever you prefer ).

The posts were there, just like the others. Just work around the side, top, other side, and bottom. This will release enough of it, to get the floss between the posts, and finish off the job.

Went real quick.

So did you just leave the holes in the panels where the posts were?

Whoa, old post

I though about leaving it off and putting some kind of plugs in the holes, but I scratched the paint trying to get it off, so I just painted the whole badge black. Looks better than the black/chrome i think.
