Lightbulb Install of Mustang scoop from Neal.

First off, prime and sand.

Then off to the paint shop. It cost me $50 bucks to get this done.

Then made a pattern using locating pin. Drill 2 extra holes for clips at the back along the sides( only comes with 2 toward front sides) and install a 1/4" wide x 1/8" thick dense closed cell foam seal around edges.

Now I found the center line of the hood and pattern and matched the 2 on the hood and adjusted the set back of the scoop on the hood and drilled the 5 holes.

After drilling the holes through the hood and bracing underneath, enlarge holes through bracing big enough for screw heads to pass through.

I test fit the scoop to make sure it fit down snug on the hood now and that the seal around the edges fit tight.

Then took it back off and drilled a hole in each corner of the area between the bracing that is cut out. Drill these from the bottom.

Then tape top of the hood were the cutting will be going on, large enough oversize so no scratches.

Then just connected the dots with a sharpie, as seen in last pic and hacked away and walla, a hole in your nice shiny hood.

Notice how you can see the 5.4 on the engine cover through the hood.

Then just slap that puppy back on and screw it down and put on the retaining clip on the locating pin. I used torques, 1.4 mm x 20mm body screws. Cutting the 2 for the back sides in 1/2 for the shorted clearence.

The whole process took about 2 hours from sanding and priming through install and cost about $130 total.
I used this foam, really door seal foam, cut off the top c or U shape so it was flat. Bought it at Home depot, it was the only thing I could find that would be to thick when cut down, and had a good adhesive on it.

I have only had it on for one day, and have had people pointing at it on the road, or saying it is really cool when they looked at it when i was parked. It looks like it was factory install with the foam seal. I am very pleased with the end result.

Next up, making a air box so it will be a full functioning forced or ram air hood.

If anyone has any questions, ask away.

Yes Neal, am very happy with it. TY, and you might want to supply 4 clips and look at the pic were I installed the clips on the sides toward the rear. Works great and should stop the corner lift. I had mine up to 105 mph and it did not flinch.

Again Neal thanks. Sled...

Thumbs up

Looks great Sleddogg

where did you use the foam strips again? and did you do anything around the drilled holes/cutout area so that the metal isn't bare? I know it's aluminum but.....

great job!

I put the foam on the underside around the outside perimiter.
Check the pic of the scoop sitting upside down, can be seen in that pic. I know it isnt a great pic.

Also I painted all the holes and cut edges to give it a cleaner look. This was done after the pics also.

Oh, and if anyone needs or wants a copy of the pattern for locating and drilling the holes let me know and I can make a copy. I used tag board for stiffness,it was kind of a pain to make, but can transfer it to sheet paper and mail anyone a copy. If interested, send me a note to ski436@yahoo.com

I plan on putting small weep holes where the duct will meet the filter housing, also may install a screen in the tube to help catch any water before it gets there. I believe though that the water will drop out before reaching the filter. Time will tell I guess.
