To start, parts list.

I used the top of an air box from a 93 Lumina, only thing the rite size.

And an air intake hose from a 93 thunderbird.

Cost of these parts, $6 at local yard.

The air box was to wide so I cut 1 1/2" width from it and welded it back together(yes its plastic). Made a bracket for it to mount ontop of the stock air tube and lined the top with closed cell foam for a good seal on the hood. Then cut a 3" hole in stock airbox for duct to enter. For proper location, I had to cut a 1/2" off the throttle body cover for the width of the air box.

I know it doesnt look real pretty right now, but it is in developement. As of right now it works great. I need to make another brace and some shrouding to make it look better, but I want to run it for a couple weeks to see how it performs.

As of rite now it works great, seals the hood well, sounds bad as hell when ya stomp on the go peddle. 100% of the air sucked into the engine now passes through the scoop. When you step on the gas to rev the engine it makes this cool hiss as the throttle opens and starts sucking.

I will run it for a week or so and let you know.

Like I said, I know it doesnt look real pretty rite now. Also, I know I need to clean under the hood. Looks worse in pics then in real.



The Metal patch is from the previous mod. I will be replacing this too.

Had to reduce the opening in the hood by 3", 1 1/2 on each side.



When it is running, put the test towel on it.



Tap the gas and it gets sucked in faster than you can say microfiber.

 

And there ya have it. Sounds bad when I am getting on it with that sucking though the hood. Now have to run some rain test and stuff, and if all goes well, clean it up and paint it.

Any comments are welcome, it does look better in person though.

Yes, I cut a disc out of plastic that snaps rite in the end hole. Like I said, all cubic feet that this 5.4 sucks is through the hood.

I will probably switch back to the stock box for winters, not sure what will happen to snow with this thing sucking like it does.

got this stuff from a similar thread...maybe you could use something like this to help keep rain/snow out:

This vent will be mounted under the hood scoop with the vents facing backwards.

I just went for a run to the gas station, (have to mow grass today ) and it seems like after 30 mph it just has a little more ooph. Not sure if thats when air gets forced in.

Even if not, I just love the sound.

I will be installing a screen in the induction tube to act as a defuser for water. Will see how things test out.

You guys should make kits and sell them, id spend an extra bit of cash to get a kit that has everything i need to install it hoods look great

 

I havn't cut the opening in my hood yet. I've been wanting to get the parts together first and make something before I cut my hole in the hood.

 

I have thought of making some kind of kit from this for people on here, but the parts are hard to come by around here. Never priced the parts new. But if someone wants one I could make another up using mine as a model. Hope to have all the cosmetics looking better next week before i enter it in the burnout contest. Sled...
