Nerf Bars - Suggestions and comments!
Well, the future wife got her second engagement ring, so I am now aloud to buy my nerf bars!! Anyone have any suggestions on which brand to get? They will be going on a 2000 SCab. I want the black powdercoat so it matchs the rollbar. A local dealer sells back country, and our truck at the firehouse has westins on it. Those are the only brand that I have seen.
Thanks for all the help!!

i had black Westins on my 97 and they rusted after about 3 years from all the Ohio salt in the winter. I have stainless Smittybuilts on my 01 now and love them.
What kind of truck are they on in your firehouse?

bigblackford - The grass truck is an 03 F350 4x4, 4 door with the Powerstroke V8. Doesnt handle for crap in muddy fields or anywhere offroad, but it gets where it is going FAST!!! Our old truck was a beast. 67 Chevy 1 ton. It went wherever it wanted to. Had it in mud up to the rocker panels, and it just kept going. Only had 26,000 original miles on it when we sold her too. I miss that truck!
I have chrome westins on mine - however I got this bright idea to change my tire in my shop and I used the ----LOL - don't do this

forklift to lift the side of my truck up like an idiot and it bent the bar up to the bottom of my driver side door - other than that they LOOK great
Kinda makes me wonder if one goes off roading aND THEY HIT A ROCK IF IT WOULD TEAR THEM UP THOUGH...

Check out the oval bars. They cost a little more but I think they have a more unique look than the tubes. I had Westin tubes on my 01 and the hold up well even in a crash. I think I'll be going with the ovals on the 04 though!

Westins it is!
Well......I got a heck of a deal on a brand new pair of Westins. 124 bucks w/ shipping for a new pair. The box is dirty as h#$L from sitting in a warehouse for a long time, but the bars themselves look like they just came from the factory. Couldnt pass up on the price. Thanks for everyones comments!!!

When I had to change my front wheel bearing assembly along side the road I used my high lift on the front corner of my Westins. I have jacked the truck up many times there, but not without concequences. The mounting brackets are tweaked a little (gotta look for it to see the bars aren't level) and underneath there is a flat spot from when I had to jack up the truck with no board to put between the bars and the jack. Now using a forklift sounds like you were trying to lift the whole side of the truck. They're strong, but not that strong. You can use them as a jack, but gotta be careful with them. Just wish I had another alternative to using mine like that, but they're already damaged so I don't care about them anymore. Not to mention the fact that they're rusting out, but they've been in the winters up here for about 3 years now and were down in San Antonio on 98 screamers truck for a while before they came up here. I figure I've gotten my use out of them. As far as holding up offroad, they can take mild abuse. They have saved my truck more than once. I wouldn't take these rock crawling though. Matt Adams did that and crunched the front corner of his.
I put Bully Bars on mine- stainless steel. Easy installation, looks good feel good. the plastic is in just the right spot (for little people) to climb into the front or the back seat. I also have a Bully step (stainless) in the hitch receiver that matches perfectly.

My wife was having fun getting in and out of our 1999 Supercab, so I put on a set of Smittybilt bars. I went with the black crinkle paint finish. They look good and I don't have to worry about polishing them.
