What Amp?

I need a good quality amp, but I can't find too many very cheap. Ill need about 1200-1500 watts, and amps that fit under a front seat. Perhaps I am asking too much?

amp

you are going to pay fo an amp with that much power. look out for amps that advertise lots of power, but cost much less than other comparable amps. their build quality cannot be the same.

Clarion amps.... Seem to have good specs, according to Crutchfield. Plus they are extremely small.

The best general rule when buying an amp is $1 per watt of power. Not always the case, but usually a great way to distinguish quality and crap. Kicker Impulse amps are great for the price if they are available in your area, so are MA (Mobile Authority).

It's all just a matter of personal opinion!

If you want POWER get a www.audiobahninc.com amplifier... make sure it's a class-D design. These are 70-80% efficient compared to Class-A or class A/B designs which are perhaps 30 or 35% efficient. This means you get a lot more musical watts for the same current input.

Many people waste money on a single 10" sub. Get at least a 12"
with 30mm Xmax excursion capability and 3" voicecoil. You'll out-grow a 10" sub in no time.

Look into JBL 1200.1 and Memphis st1500d or DEi 1100D all are class D designs and have a small footprint. You can find the JBL online for around $280 and it comes very highly rated. Also the MTX8100D actually runs in the power range of 1200-1300 watts or so.

Ahhh 1 dollar per watt What ? no...that just means you want to get raped....anyways i would look into orion i think crossfire makes a good one and you can allways look into audiobahn they have digital 1500 watt amps for like 300 which is a good thing cuz you don't wanna have to beef up your electrical sys. Anyways i would say its best to stay away from kicker,rf, ect cuz they are way too expensive...case and point rf 1000 watt amp 1000 dollars orion xtr pro 2400 digital amp 989 dollars ummm see any diffrence in price per watt ? ohh yea the orion is also under rated by about 200 watts anyways stay away from the main stream

Good luck

I haven't installed it yet, but I've heard nothing but great reviews.

I have the MTX Thunder 81000d, and it is very powerful. It is quite large though. I do not believe it would fit under a front seat with all the crap under there to begin with. Mine is behind my back wall, and it is driving a Polk Momo 12.

P=IV, I=P/V.

1500W/13.8V = 109 amps. And all for only $300 no less!

Oh - you weren't talking RMS. Never mind.

I'm running an older Rodek 2150i amp bridged for sub bass. Anyhow, while looking into the history of Rodek I emailed back and forth with an engineer who designed the latest Rodek (Europe) amps. I was asking him about class-D efficiency and sound. He said most of the class-D amplifiers have really bad distortion specs. He also mentioned to look for class-T amplifiers which use a chip designed by www.tripath.com , zapco and us amps use the tripath chipset as far as I know. There may be others but it offers 20khz clean bandwidth and up to 90% efficiency! Not as cheap as class-D though. www.tripath.com is selling 1500+wrms evaluation boards for $299usd!!! All you need to add is some sort of enclosure and a +/-90 volt supply that can handle it. The eval board has the tripath chip mounted on pcb with 4 big power mosfets and heatsink ready to go. Check it out... even for your next home subwoofer amplifier. Doesn't get any cheaper than that for watts.

While I've recommended Audiobahn amplifiers in the past and I'm satisfied with their Alum12 subwoofer, basically Audiobahn like Kove Audio, etc are lots of show and ok GO. The thing is... where the hell are you going to find room to mount one of those huge Audiobahn amps in our trucks. Nobody has room for something 2 1/2 ft long by 1 1/2 ft wide and 3 inches thick. It's ridiculous! All chrome and ooooooohhh... power meters ... cooooooooool. Who gives a sh*t. I want something affordable, power to spare, efficient, and SMALL! Any manufacturers listening or do I have to build my own??
