Well, got some stuff done after work today. Got the RCA's, remote wire, 12v, ground (for the ipod interface), reverse wire, AVIC monitor cable, and am/fm antenna all ran to the back wall. The brain and ipod controller are all mounted up on the back wall.

I think I may have jacked up the monitor cable though. The deck turned on, screen popped out and there was no picture. Shut it off, unplugged the din cable, turned the truck on, screen came out an inch and a half, and everything stopped. So tomorrow I get to trouble shoot my own truck....awesome. Hopefully an extra monitor cable i have layin around will fix the problems.

Anyway...hopefully by the end of the week it'll be up and running, and hopefully i wont need a new deck.

My gamer tag from Medal of Honor. My buddies wanted to create the PorkPatrol and the naming went something like 'Think of the nastiest good you can come up with that would be made with Pork.' I was eating cereal at the time and thought of how nasty pork cereal would be. And there you have it.

Sun,
Hopefully it is something easy that you have overlooked and you get it fixed without too much drama. I installed my Clarion NX409 yesterday afternoon and it went without incident. Took a little longer than I thought and I just have it running my factory speaks for right now. I bought a black box off ebay to enable the deck to work while the truck is rolling.

Well, tonight's update...

AVIC appears to be toast. Swapped out different combos of monitor cables and brains with no success. Gonna try a few more things tomorrow, but I think its an internal issue that just happened to go bad at the time of this install. Meter'd all the power wires...12v, 12v switched, and ground are all good. Gonna try a few more things, along with call pioneers tech support and see if they'll hook it up, but chances are we'll be lookin at a new deck. Soooo....

Kenwood DNX 5140
Kenwood DNX 7140
Pioneer AVIC X910BT
Pioneer AVIC X920BT
Pioneer AVIC Z110BT
or...
I could do the normal DVD reciever and try and find an expy console, where I could flush mount a GPS in the large pocket there...ahhh so many options, and ones that I DIDNT want to have to deal with. Meantime i'll pick up something crappy, maybe slap in a crappy sony deck ive got layin around just so I can have some tunes. Needless to say im pretty dissapointed right now.

But....the patman gauge overlay arrived tonight, so ive got that to look forward to.

That sucks, man. I thought I had a head unit problem recently but it was just the cylindrical fuses coming from the battery...they were loose in the connection. I hate to hear that.

I agree, good choice. If you get discounts then go all out, man. I have my thread around here somewhere and there are lots of videos online, but if you want more pictures/videos of the unit in action let me know and I'll take them tomorrow.

Yeah, the Z is top on the list for sure. Did you ever have a chance to play around with a F series AVIC? Whats the boot up speed like? Do you use the voice commands at all?

I never played with the F series---just went with what I saw on YouTube reviews of the units.

The boot-up speed is blazing. It's 5 seconds until the music starts playing and about 10 seconds after that until the controls (NAV) are available.

I do use the voice controls quite a bit, especially for iPod. With my exhaust being so loud I am actually going to relocate the mic. I have it next to my steering wheel (on the flat surface in front of the display gauges). Going to re-route it to my sun visor so it's right at my face instead of hidden behind the steering wheel.

Right on man...time to start seeing what I can get one for. What did you end up paying? You went through 6th Ave Electronics right?

Try putting your mic at the top of your A-pillar.

Na I got mine through Sonic because I've always had good customer service through them. They recently replaced a dud amp on me. It was $1,000.

Had I known about the $200 rebate (not sure if they still offer it) I would have bought elsewhere. Most other places it's about $1200, so it works out to be the same.

I'll try the A-pillar but not sure how wind noise would be. I ride with my windows down a lot.

So does by buddy Jack, we put a F700BT (now running the new firmware so its essentially the same as the X710) and his is up on the pillar and sounds pretty good with the windows down.

So I think i decided on going with the X910. The 7 inch screen vs. the 5.8 just isnt worth the extra $400 or so Id be paying for the Z over the X. Gonna go through work and pricematch Amazon and NOT use my employee discount (which I think is more then the X is listed for on amazon) so I can get the $100 rebate from Pioneer.

Plus, I like the idea of being able to mod the operating system on the X910, which for some reason, you cant do on the Z.
