I Think I Got It

Okay, I just about to purchase a set of componets for my front door, I'm getting a really great deal from a friend and they are brand new.

I am going to switch my current front door speakers to the back and install these in the front.

From what I read I need to get a decent 4channel amp so if i ever want to upgrade with and add a sub so it can hold the power. If both of the speakers i will have are 280 Watts Max power, and Watts Nominal Power Handling is 60 watts.

Would a JL Audio G Series G4500 be a good amp to purchase. Would something like this allow me upgrade. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_136G450...00.html?tp=115

Do I still need a bigger amp yet?

Hey, good call on upgrading the speakers and going the 4-channel route. As a general rule, JL amps offer great CLEAN power, which is what you are looking for. A lot of lower end amps advertise 1.1 gigawatts, but they wont ever deliver that.

Also, with CLEAN power, you can really give your speakers a good dose of wattage without a lot of worry. What kills speakers is dirty (distorted) power from underpowered amps, or amps that put out their signal with a higher THD (total harmonic distortion) %.

So, JL amps are solid, you could add another SUB amp later and run a 2-amp setup like a lot of guys do. Should work out slick!

Okay, well if it would be better to add another amp when i get a sub, is the amp overkill on the power? Or should it set me about just right?

First of all, what speakers are you getting? How much you paying for them?

For the specs you listed, yeah, that JL would work just fine.

Just bought them off my friend. Its the Pioneer TS-D720C, he had bought them for his 150 but never used them, and he was in need of some money. Looks like they retail for about 220, I only paid 100.

Right now I have the basic 6" x 8" 4-Way Speaker with 280 Watts Max. Power pioneer speakers in the front.

I'd get a bigger amp, but that's just me.

Well I really screwed up. I let an eclipse go that looked nice and had an 85w x 4 @ 4 go, it was only 79 bucks shipped. That's a great price compared to others with comparable stats.

Because I got the decent set of speakers for cheap, and was helping a friend out that needed some money.

For that price you can get an amplifier that delivers MUCH more CLEAN power.

Yeah. I think I will probably go with an amp that puts out about right at the wattage I need. I don't see any point in spending the money to get an excess power amp.
