I have a pioneer with 25 watts rms x4 ... I have an coustic amp bridged on 1 10" sub and still working on my bx to go under the seat in my 03 fx4 screw.. I have a front out on my pioneer HU also ( besides the one for the sub ) the only two amps I have other than the one I am using for the subs is a old Fast and Furious red amp 150.2 I think its like 35 watts rms X 2 and a Pioneer GX something or other that I believe is 30watts rms x 2.. Would there be a benifit to use an amp for the front if the HU already puts out almost that much wattage (Pioneer DEH 2900 MP ) I have Sony 3 ways in all four doors they are rated at 55 watts rms.. Keep in mind I am 42 years old and I am looking for Quality sound , I dont wont to blow the roof off my truck
If I do hook an amp up I am thinking the pioneer amp... I will get some pics...

You can't compare a decks power to a external amps power . If you have a head unit that says RMS power to be 25wx2 and a external amp that says RMS power to be 25 wx2 . Most people would think that they would be even in output power , but the external amp will blow the headunit away all day long . Also keep in mind that all external amps (regardless of size) need to get power directly from the battery .

 

Also, having the amp will give you better control of the speakers. They will sound better and be able to play louder.

 

Dude , your head unit isn't putting out that much power . The amp in a headunit is about the size of a deck of cards . Please read below .


Car Stereo head unit power is VERY deceiving! Many head units have HUGE power ratings on the Boxes or right on the front of the units! The highest head unit power I have ever actually tested was 13 watts (at a half way decent THD)… So even if the head unit says 35Watts or 40 watts per channel on it don’t EVER expect for it to REALLY BE more than 15! Just cant happen!
REAL amplifiers use LARGE power supplies in them with transformers to STEP UP the voltage So that large amounts of power can be made! Head units just don’t have room in them For the large transformers that are needed for large power supplies!!!! So don't expect more than 15 watts per Speaker out of head units! Some of the more reputable head units might print high power ratings on the boxes but If you read the small print in the spec sheets in the owners manual they might admit to the 15 watt figure!

Of course they are going to advertise that much power, they want you to buy their product.

Kind of like how companies like Hifonics and Boss say their amps produce huge power numbers upwards of 1000 RMS, yet when you look at their fuse ratings, capacitance, and their other guts you quickly realize its a complete joke and total bull****.

 

I'm not going to argue with you . If you want better sound , buy a good set of front coax speakers or better yet a component set , and a good external amplifier with rated output power to be anywhere from 30-75 watts RMS. You will be happy .

 

FX4 2003, let me give you a word of advice. These guys know what they're talking about. Some of 'em do this for a living. If you're not gonna even consider thier advice, don't ask.

 

I would definately use an amp. You are running a lowend Pioneer (still decent) but the 18w that it truely can produce is nothing compared to the better dampening, better parts, and more true power with the amplifier.

 

Just wondering when using OHMS law and using the wire size guage ( stuff I picked up in college ) do i size my amp wire by the rms power or by the companies max output rateing ?

 

What amp are you using?

Whos wire gauge charts? IASCA? MECA?

I always do RMS + 20%
