You'd be pulling roughly 70 amps through the wire if your amp is running at 1000 watts on 14.5 volts.

Oh yeah and the recomended gauge wire for 100 amps at 15' to 25' of wire is 6. If your wire is 10 feet or less, you'd be fine with 8 gauge.

Well, if your amp is pulling 1000 watts and 70 amps go through a 40 amp fuse, yeah...the fuse will blow. Try it and see what happens...I don't know much about systems. Do 1000 watt amps always pull 1000 watts, or is that just their max rating...I have no idea.

Although I'd say do it once and do it right.

sound amplifiers, are rated as peak power at full volume.... so a typical 1000w amp might only be actually displacing 500-700 under normal loud volume, and maybe 300-400 under 50% volume

and the original amp wiring kit should say how big of an amp you can connect to it. They usually say like "up to 800w amps" or something like that.....

Oh...and stuff like this can happen if you have a fuse that doesn't work properly and too small a wire...

Not that I know what caused that fire, but it can be a dangerous thing if done improperly

if the fuse isnt big enough, it will keep popping... If you simply put a bigger fuse into a smaller wire, thats where you see your problems, b.c the wire isnt made to hold that much current through it...

Is that 1000 watts peak, or RMS power?

1000wrms, class D amp, I would probably use 4 gauge minimum.
