amp it up

i have two 15" subs in my F150 and i can say from expensive lessons that you want an amp rated just below what your subs can handle, that way when youdo turn it all the way up(and you will)it wont be more than the subs can take so rock on with peace of mind! Kenwood head unit, Alpine 90 watt amp,Acoustics crossover, two 6x8's, Sony explode 1000 watt amp, two 15" Sony explode subs, Pyramide passive EQ.

OK everything in hand but the edead, wires, and expanding foam. I have the edead on the way and I know to get the foam at home depot but I need wire tips. Should I just pick up some wire at radio shack or is that something I need to get online made for specific auto use? I just want to get this project started and I hate waiting for deliveries.

I will wait until I get my edead before I tear out the interior but I can get prepped with the wiring and get my head unit installed and speakers prepped. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

last question for the day...................

I have always soldered the HU to the harness but I see that most guys here just use twists. What do you guys do and if you use twists please tell me the type and size so I can finish my shopping and get to work.

I actually use bullet connectors. It allows for quick disconnect if the need arises. Blue and/or Red.

OK I just picked up my speaker wires and got a wiring kit from ebay on the way so now I will get started next weekend for sure.

Really looking forward to this. I have so many more questions though. I have been reading all the installation sheets that came with each of the items I have bought. I think I'm gonna need some more help.:o

Hey,
Im not sure if you mean the gains on the amp, or your HUs volume, but either way, that is a bad idea. You will start sending a clipped signal to your equipment and over time you can kill your speakers and/or your amp.

Biteyahard, I solder most of my stuff. I preffer it to crimps and such because it is usually a stronger connection. Crimping work good enough though too. Each person has their own preference on how they like to do it.
But, using the bullet connectors is a very nice idea too. Easy to pull the HU out..

Yeah Right now I'm thinking about soldering a 3-4 inch piece of speaker wire to the speakers and then using bullet connectors at that point. Anyone ever try that or is that a waste of time? I was thinking it would make upgrading easier and still have a good connection. I guess I could just use the female quick connects but my speakers have two different sizes and the only females I have been able to find are .250
