gaining/tuning question
Ok I've done a little more reading into this and gotten a little more work on my stand, but its no where near where it should be.
And I need to make a 150lb live rock order very soon!
Again I find it very had to believe that there is not clipping at full volume. However, I could believe that there is no clipping with a 0db recording...
Also, I am not saying that all Alpine decks had the same problems, a few complaints came from people with an Alpne deck, who switched to a newer deck (last years models). So perhpas Alpine did shape up and fix some of their problems on the decks.
I guess for me to believe it ... I would have to see it. Also, I'd like to see some testing done with actual music.

It seems that maybe Alpine has taken a step for the better, while Eclispe has taken a step for the worse. I haven't been reading as much as I used to, but some people have been complaing about the new Eclipse units.
I decided to take a step in to the saltwater aquarium hobby. Much less stressful! Don't have to worry about people sealing a 3/4th+ ton tank.
bigrobrn,
Another nice feature of the Alpine HUs with the Bass Engine Pro is that they have 6 channel time alignment. This allows you to adjust for differing speaker path lengths by adding varying delays for each speaker. Helps perfect imaging and sound stage placement. That was my biggest reason for buying the CDA-9815.
I don't know of another brand that has this feature.

Chris,
You know you are the 3rd or 4th person I have heard that said that about Eclipse. I used to run Eclipse as well back in the day and always loved their HU's as well. Only reason I went Alpine this go round was primarily the TOS out and seamless interface to a super nice processor. Well, that and I have always been partial to the look of most of the Alpine units. Some of their HU's however are downright hideous looking.
So you gonna take some pics of that tank once you get done? I would like to check it out. Been considering doing an in wall style tank between my BR and kitchen. Maybe seeing yours could give me some eye deers (that's ideas for you yanks
).
Ok, back to the point at hand.

just thought i'd thro my two cents in on the fish tank thing. 5 yrs ago my dad and i built a 100 gallon saltwater rank behind the living room. It was one of the most painstaking things i have done due to the fact we had to have inspectors come in and make sure we werent ruining any supports on the house... but anyway well worth the investment and was a lot cheaper than having someon else do it. maintenance is a bit of a pain due to checking water, but it looks great. dont have the plans anymore but i would really like to see ur finished product.
good luck
good luck
Well I have heard some people complaing about the new decks, but as I have said I havent looked much into it. I ran an 8051 and had no problems with it. I absolutely loved it! But I would probably look twice before I bought a new Eclipse...But its ashame if Eclipse has gone downhill as I have alwasy said it would be my next deck. I have also hear a few other companies have been heading down hill....
Will definately post some pictures of the tank once I get it done. Its going to take sometime and just as much (if not more) money as car audio.
But I have been reasearching it for a while now and I used to have a fish only tank, but I want to do a reef tank now; its going to be a 120 gallon. I hope to have it up and running in about a week to two weeks...it just depends when I get the stand built. My advice is get the biggest tank you can...I first started looking at a 45 hex then 60 hex then a 75 gallon, well the step up from the 75 to the 120 wasn't a whole lot mostly because I needed the same amout of equipment for a 120 as I did for a 75. Check out www.reeflounge.com (rate my tank section) or www.reefcentral.com . Have some really nice tanks that will get you motivated.
Anyway...ALPINE BLOWZ...

Chris,
There are some good looking tanks on those sites!
Anyway, I almost forgot. You left something off the end of your post. YOu should go back and edit it right after the blows part and add in Eclipse away.

That is probably my favorite site right now. For some reason I seem to stick to the smaller forums as they seems to be much nicer and mroe helpful. I've made all of 4 post on RC. Although the same thing goes for the car audio forums. I don't like the sounddomains or the elite forums, but rather I like the caraudioforum (or used to), but now spend what little time I have over a caraudiotalk.com.
OH BTW I am Snausages01 on Reeflounge, I am still in the process of switching my names over to that one. I talked to RP on here and he told me I would have to start a new account; I just haven't felt like doing it yet.
I just looked a the tank, and I have seen it before. I think I looked at every post in that section before I bought mine. I like it, it looks great! I wish I could do an in-wall tank, but I have no chance of doing that now. Plus mine is only a 4 foot tank (48x24x24) I liked that size because of the smaller footprint and because I saw a 120 setup that I absolutely loved. Also, I could keep the same amout of equipment with the 120 or the 75. The 125 is a 5/6 foot tank isn't it? Is that 'blur of a fish' at the top a foxface? If so hows it doing in the reef?
Heres the link if anyone else wants to take a look. http://www.reeflounge.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7301
Sry for the hijack Rob....
, but I think we are done discussing how much better Eclipse is than Alpine
and setting gains.
Its all good. I went to Alabama this weekend and listened to my stepdad's setup. He has the kicker 5x7 components. I was surprised how good they sound. I had to help him adjust his gains and the individual crossovers on the 4 channel amp.
I am now thinking about upgrading to the Focal polykevlars. I do like the CDT's, but I think the Focal PK's are better. I went and relistened to the Polyglass's and man they are clear. I havent heard the PK's, but I can only imagine they get better. Are you still satisfied with the Utopia's Haz?? If you know where I can get a good deal on those PK's let me know.
